Change of plans #99: I'm going to stop with two large and two small containers. This will allow me to spread out the tomatoes (in bags) and still have plenty of maneuvering room. I moved the second small container this morning and just need to fill it with dirt. Then I'm going to pull the beets, water everything in, transplant my peppers, plant some more seeds, and then take a break! I need to change the refrigerator filter, run the weed whacker, and clean up some other things in the yard. My back said it's time to ease into Monday😂

I planted 14 peppers: green, red, orange, yellow, chocolate, and jalapeno in one of the large.containers. I moved six tomato plants forward of the container with the peppers and left four behind the pepper container. There are quite a few tomatoes growing and lots of tomato flowers. I have several cukes almost ready to harvest. Planted one eggplant and one unknown (it's either a cucumber or a squash- too soon to tell). It grew in the same container as the eggplant and should have been the second eggplant but is obviously not😂 Seed mixup? Topped off the grow bag soil from the bags where my pepper seedlings were - I have more seeds to get in but that's enough for today. I watered the living heck out of everything and will have to continue doing that all summer since the irrigation in that area is insufficient for the garden; it's usually my after dinner chore. Changed the fridge water filter, vacuumed up the dirt I tracked in, and took a shower. Now I have 20 minutes to sit between now and dinner prep. It occurred to me that I hadn't eaten all day, so I'm definitely ready for dinner!!

My peppers just did not take well this year...will try more once again. I do have about 7 plants that did decide to come to the party, so we will see...
Have 6-7 cukes that are growing bigger each day. Have some dragon beans that are getting bigger and should be able to pick some pods in a week or two....tomatoes are starting to blossom so should see fruit soon...everything that sprouted seems to be on track....I am waiting for the shoe to fall though....Protecting the sheep from the wolves that want them, their family, their money and full control of our Country!

Congrats on the health status...I am remaining positive. Some of the cukes are 6"-8" long and growing in circumference daily. The few pepper plants that are growing are getting taller. everything else seems to be progressing, beans getting thicker, watermelon vine extending, sweet potatoes are growing like a weed...I have had two more volunteers show up, and found a leaf sticking up between my porch and the tiny home. Look down and what do I see, three sweet potatoes coming out of the soil....whill have to harvest those soon, problem is I can barely get my arm down to them...it makes me wonder what I have under the wooden porch....Protecting the sheep from the wolves that want them, their family, their money and full control of our Country!

I love sweet potatoes, but stopped planting them because they took over almost the whole garden and part of the yard. If I had a section of the yard that I could just give over to them, I'd plant some again. You probably have a bushel of sweet potatoes growing under your porch😂
Cukes are getting bigger and more numerous every day, and I counted a dozen tomatoes today. The peppers look happy so far, but I need some short cages for them as they also tend to flop over...I moved Darth Vader to his new home (out of the sprinkler head path), reattached a trellis pole that came loose because I moved its home, and in a while I'll go out and water. That's it for today. Hoping for rain...Tomorrow I need to mix up some organic insect discourager and spray the whole garden.

Was going to go out and plant, and then run the weed whacker. It's 96o! I'm doing other things....
Did you ever plant the whole multi-eyed potato? I read an article that says it will work. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm going to try it! I put extra soil in one of the small containers to give the potatoes more depth. Thunderstorm with downpours ended my planting plan but tomorrow it should be dry again and I'll throw a few of these potatoes into the container. We really needed the rain so no complaints. All of the plants look very lush after the rain.Last edited by surviort_wwdnet; 05-10-2023, 06:11 PM.

Yes, I planted 6 potatoes that each had several eyes growing. I planted three in each large planter. I kept adding soil until about 3 inches from the top (some soil has settled now) and have plants 12+ inches. I just do not know when to go spud looking....Protecting the sheep from the wolves that want them, their family, their money and full control of our Country!

okay, good to know. The potatoes have started looking a bit brown-ish and I was wondering if too much water, not enough water....Protecting the sheep from the wolves that want them, their family, their money and full control of our Country!

Here are some pics of my little garden. You can see my potatoes are a little brownish:
Its not much, but like I have said before, its an experiment...

Very nice!! Looks like a successful experiment so far. Is that an English cuke?
Got 10 potatoes in - took up all of the small container except for a 2/3 row of blue cornflowers. Brought in a couple of cukes (5" and 6" long); there are smaller ones on the vine. Ordered some calcium supplement as I'm seeing signs of blossom end rot on my squash. I'm going to plant some more in the container with the cuke/squash (?) plant, plus some sugar snaps. That's a 4x6 container with one plant... I have a 3x4 container with one eggplant and I'm going to put in a second eggplant, plus some lima beans.
Two small containers are going where my tropical plant bed was, and I'm going to plant squash (acorn, Hubbard, yellow, zucchini, etc.) there. A few caladium have popped up and I'm going to have to dig them out and move them elsewhere, then put down some landscape fabric.

Based on the appearance and a small yellow squash-looking appendage, I'm guessing that my unknown plant is a yellow squash. How that seed got in with my eggplant I'll never know. There's no similarity in the seeds??
Otherwise, everything is doing well, got some rain and sunshine, and looking perky. Between last night's rain and the irrigation system running, the dirt in the remaining 3 containers was too wet for me to shovel. Packed another dozen boxes to take advantage of the rain, and running out of room to put them!
