  • All guests have departed...now the clean-up begins. We took kayak out for a two hour tour to have some us time. Picked 25 peppers, which is all I have going on now in garden, except fruit trees. Had a pomelo yesterday, and it was good. I have about 20 left on the two trees. I had planted some clippings from my mulberry tree, so I have 35 new plants growing. Will likely transplant them into containers soon so I can bring in during any really cold weather. Not sure where I will plant these but will likel give some to my tribe members....Pineapple plants seem to be growing as well, but will have to watch these....

    • Except for turnips, everything else in the gardens is in the "growing" stage. I noticed a couple of cabbage plants starting to head, so it shouldn't be long before I can make soup. The Brussels sprouts are starting to develop tiny buds at the stem joints, and of course there's the baby tomatoes. We had one heck of a storm here this afternoon, but nothing blew away except (almost) me taking down the flag - I had to hold onto the flag pole to keep from going down😂 Otherwise, it was a laundry/grocery run/housework day and making dinner. I'm feeling guilty looking at all the empty starter pots, so I may have to start some herbs and bantam lettuce that I can leave on the greenhouse rack.

      • The handicap ramps will be here Tuesday, so I have some rearranging to do. The little greenhouse has to be moved because it sits in front of the side door, and a ramp is going over it. I moved the compost tumbler, 2 ladders and some planter boxes, a trash can, and a huge planter pot, and now I need to move the greenhouse to - where else? - the bag garden. I need to get the dolly out, load up some big pavers, and make a stable platform for the greenhouse to sit on. I'll set it up against the back wall of the shed, and it should be fine right there. Ladders? I can easily move one but we have a 12 ft articulating ladder that's never been used and needs to get listed for sale (along with a lot of other stuff).

        • Relocated the little greenhouse to the back of the shed in the bag garden, and dumped the failed seedlings dirt. Cleaned off the side door stoop to get ready for the ramp. Pulled out some herb seeds and will plant them tomorrow. Did laundry, cleaned house, and made some chicken fajitas. That's it.

          • again, not much happening in the garden here. Plenty of flowers on the inside peppers, but few fruit. Have 1 cherry pepper growing. Need to get outside and do some things, but issues with the SNF/Rehab my dad is in at the moment. I am having to go in every morning before they officially open and get him up, help him change and make sure he is ready for therapy when they come...oh, and get his breakfast before 10am....and don't get me going on the O2 that he doesn't need but they say he does...however every time I go there his cannula is off, or he is hooked up to the EMPTY O2 tank.....and his O2 sats are 96-98 as I take them myself with MY machine.

            • I'm sorry your dad isn't getting the professional care he deserves (and is likely paying for). He's lucky to have a son who will look after him and make sure he gets what he needs.

No gardening today. I ordered some new non-GMO organic herb seeds that should be here in the next couple of days. In the meantime, I put up the outside Christmas lights, the wreath, and a couple of lighted decorations. My motto: Put up fewer decorations, take down fewerdecorations...I'll see how it looks when it gets dark.

              • Spent 3/4 of the on base getting IDs, only to find out I needed my SS card (wasn't in the list I was given on the phone but oh well) to complete my ID. So Wednesday it's back to the base for the short version of finishing my ID paperwork.

I did get my new seeds today, so if there's time tomorrow after a couple of VA activities, including new ramps, I'll get some herbs planted. The package I bought had everything I wanted and cilantro, which I didn't want since cilantro=soap to me😂 I'm going to plant parsley, thyme, sage, chives, lavendar, basil and Thai basil.

Husband told me to find a potting bench for outside - yay!! Can't wait for that😁 Also a new chair for my office, which I desperately need. This time I'm going for the gold - any suggestions?

                • Here's what I planted today (3 lavendar, one each of the rest):

I used the larger starter pots to make sure the herbs will have enough room to grow.

                  • I finished weeding the unused containers so I can offload the soil and move one to the bag garden - that is, after I go out and rearrange the bag garden😉Tomorrow is another running around morning, so in the afternoon I'll start cleaning up in the bag garden. The soil I wrapped in plastic to solarize it should be good to refill some of the grow bags with, since it's been out in the sun for a couple of months.

The baby tomatoes are growing well so far, and I had one cauliflower plant that was heading so I tied the leaves up around it. That should keep the head white instead of a yellowish color. Herbs haven't sprouted yet but they're getting plenty of sunlight.

                    • The bag garden has been cleaned up and rearranged - looks so much better. Soaked the unplanted soil-filled bags and covered with clear plastic again; they're moved out of the way so there's plenty of walk-around room now. Sprayed the weeds between the containers and ordered more week killer😂

Husband said I might as well plant in the unplanted containers, since it will be a few months before construction starts here. Something to think about...beets, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, onions...

                      • Sorry, been super busy. Finally got dad back to his ALF apartment...but there was a small battle to achieve that. I had my data and knew the enemy tactics, so I let them play their hand. Then I promptly dismantled their tactics one by one....They didn't know who they were dealing with. I was polite but firm, never yelled or even raised my voice...but they understood exactly what I was saying and meaning. The nursing stupid-visor and the case manager both walked away with their tails tucked.

Also working on other businesses right now, so not a lot of time to post. Still getting a few peppers and watching my pomelo for picking.

                        • I'm glad your dad is back home. There's a certain arrogance in the healthcare community that's hard to overcome, but it seems your own experience in healthcare overruled their "we know best" attitude.

Also not much time for posting as we've been dismantling a couple of the ramps that were installed so we can swap things around to fit the way we actually use our house and not how they think we should use it😂

Genovese basil, Thai basil, and thyme have sprouted. Still waiting on the rest...

                          • I thought my kale was done, but it is still going. Other than that and the peppers, not much going on..which is good as my "septic" system for my washer seems to be having a problem. Need to dig it up again, did it two years ago, and see what is happening...

                            • Just when things are moving along, some other thing pops up!

We're in for a cold snap starting tomorrow night, and into the 30's overnight this weekend. Time to roll out the frost blankets, which I left by the garden cuz ya know, winter's coming! I closed the greenhouse cover - my little sprouts need warmth. Sage just popped up. Both basils and the thyme still growing slowly
