  • I'm going to transplant my pepper seedlings into a grow bag (or 3) and then re-transplant them when the containers get moved. I need to get some beans started!

Beautifully cool here today and i should have been shoveling but had other pressing matters...

The forum doesn't like me using my VPN either😂

I harvested the rest of the cabbages and onions so the containers will be clear to be shoveled out. I used 1-1/2 heads of cabbage in a stew for dinner, and put 6 full trays of shredded green and red cabbage in the dehydrator. I cleaned up the onions (all small) and put them in the fridge - they'll get used up as I cook some more. I pulled some weeds by the containers and moved them to the curb with the yard waste can. Most of the outer cabbage leaves and all of the stalks went to the waste can, since my composter didn't have enough room for all of them. Mopped the floors to conceal the mess I made.😉

        • Just looked at garden yesterday...some of the pole beans have grabbed the pole and started to climb up...One corn plant took off in growth and looks like it was planted 2-3 weeks ahead of the others...it is 4x the size of others...over achiever....other plants are showing growth...lost two corn though after transplanting, but they were questionable even before transplanting. Watermelons are looking strong, and sweet potatoes are staring their runners....gonna try and weed a bit today as I work tomorrow at the office (other providers going on vacation this time of year so have a few dates already set)....

          • My cucumbers are in full flower and climbing like crazy! My peppers really need transplanted and I might have to put them in grow bags until I get the containers moved. This morning I weed-whacked the front and back yard and took out two large bags of trash (this sorting/throwing is eating up trash bags). The garden got watered overnight by the irrigation system, so there was nothing else to do out there but wish I had containers moved in.

I decided to tackle the garage again, this time to move some Christmas stuff up there. I moved the Christmas tree (it fought hard to not go into the attic and almost won), lighted lamp post, and hard-sided pet transporter to the attic, grabbed some small snap-top containers that I'd forgotten were up there, then pulled the huge tub with all the lights and decorations from in front of a 2-door storage cabinet; what's in there? 💡Hey💡 if I got rid of the 8 pails of 10-year-old grout that my husband put there after he tiled floors, the rest of the decorations would fit in the cabinet. The tubs of grout are stacked in front of the overhead garage door so I can dispose of them. I repacked the decorations into the smaller containers and put them in the cabinet. Once I decide where to put the humongous 52-qt cooler that we bought and never used, that whole corner of the garage will be empty, except for a camping chair and bow saw, for the first time in years. I'm always amazed at the amount of "stuff" we've accumulated in this house in just under 20 years. I still need to sort through tools and caulk and caulk guns and a bunch of other things out there.

Threw together some chicken fajitas for dinner, and now that it's over, I'm done for the night!

            • Working today so not at home....a provider is on vacay and they asked me to work a few days. Will check garden tonight, but I am in the "come on and grow" mode at the moment. Right now it's the weeding. Will be putting some more mulch down this weekend.

              • I canned one batch of beef cubes, and a second batch of beef broth. I still have turkey broth, some soup, and some more beef to do tomorrow, but the canner is set up and ready to go first thing in the morning. I watered and inspected the bag garden - it all looks good (for now). Shoveling dirt may have to wait until Friday so I can get the canning done and reclaim my countertop. I have no more room to plant until I get the containers moved and I should have help for that next week. As long as the weather holds up, I'll be able to get some of it done. Fence guy is supposed to get started next week too.

                I almost remember working...😂

                • Another day of canning, laundry, and cooking. The garden is doing fine without me fussing over it for right now. I put the canner away and might shovel tomorrow...or not. Per my husband, it's going to rain...

                  • Gonna try and get more seeds planted this weekend in bags that nothing sprouted. Weeded a little yesterday, and GS came and visited for a few hours. He's not quite big/old enough for the garden though, but someday.....and my app says risk of severe weather today...LOL...the other app says slight chance of rain...LOL...I say they get paid to much to make predictions....

                    • The wind blew, the thunder roared...and it rained gently for about 5 minutes😂 I had already watered the garden, but every little bit helps.

I was going to shovel and my husband told me absolutely not. So I sprayed some weeds, watered the garden, did a little housecleaning, and puttered around. It was pretty warm today, so I'm glad I wasn't shoveling! I'm going to transplant into grow bags and hope the kids get the containers moved so I can re-transplant them. Once I clear the starter pots, I'll get some beans started.

Saw a tiny baby cuke about 1/2" long while I was watering😁

                      • The baby cukes are popping out everywhere there is/was a flower! I transplanted green and red bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, eggplant, and lavender into large grow bags, fertilized and top-dressed with compost. Hopefully the transplants won't get much larger before the containers get moved, and if the kids don't show this week I'll have to hire someone else. Everything got an extra watering since it's another dry, breezy day. Something has been munching holes in my tomato leaves, so I sprayed with some organic bug spray and insecticidal soap, and I'll put down some snail bait. I also sprayed the new transplants for good measure.

                        • planted more seeds is starter pots..peppers, watermelons, and flowers for pollinators as the last flowers I planted started nothing. Put down some new top soil and watering daily. We did a bit of rain Saturday night, but not enough....everything else is going well. Have a couple transplanted beans not doing great but seem to be sprouting new leaves. Have maybe 4 pepper plants starting to come out in grow bags and that is why I planted more seeds in starter pots and I had about 15 grow bags for peppers and only about 4 are showing themselves...Thinking of starting an experiment...LOL, and plant a few of the starter peppers and watermelons around/under my fruit trees.....I have some mulberry bushes started there and they seem to be doing okay...just looking for space if needed....

                          • I'm fighting an army worm invasion (at least that's what they look like) - they're eating up my tomato plants. I sprayed with some insecticidal soap and organic bug spray, but they are ravaging the leaves! I ordered some stronger insecticide because I have no intention of losing my plants to those little buggers!

Otherwise, everything looks great. We had a little rain but not much; there's a chance of more between 7 and 9 PM.

Peppers take at least 2 weeks to germinate, so if you planted last week, give it some more time.

                            • My first planting of peppers was about 5 weeks ago, and some showed up at 4 weeks, but others nothing....had nice day of on-off rain yesterday...so will check garden later...planted new peppers for just in case....

                              • My worm-invasion death spray worked and the chewing critters are gone. We had a little rain yesterday and more today. All the plants look healthy, save some Swiss cheese tomato leaves. I picked up new hose nozzles after I took my cat to the kitty beauty parlor, and now I'm not getting a shower along with the plants. VA tech visit, Home Depot run, and cat beautification chewed up a fair chunk of my day, but tomorrow's another day. Not much to do in the garden until the containers get moved, except to plant some new seed starters. I can do that in the morning, hopefully before the fence contractor shows up. I got a delivery of 10 bank boxes so I can start packing up the freeze-dried food and the food I pressure canned ahead of the new flooring installation. If I don't pack it up, the double-stacked cans on the top shelf are bound to topple over when the racks get moved😉
