My understanding was that negative pressure was when a higher flow of air exits the room than is allowed in thus airborne pathogens from inside the room are vented outside away from the protected area while clean air is pulled from outside the room I believe positive pressure systems are used to protect the patient from outside threats. Ie protect an aids patient from exposure to the flu or pneumoniaLast edited by justanothergunnut; 08-04-2014, 11:30 AM.

One of the two. LOL its been since 2005 LOL.
I had a fan unit...attached to that was a filter box with three merv 10++ 3m filters iirc. This pushed outside air into the room via the room door.it was sheeted off...along with the windows. The flap /valve was on that as well.
If it was reversed (fan inside pushing air out) that would cause unfiltered air to be drawn in via cracks..gaps etc. Doing it as I did outside air doesn't enter.except thru the filter box. This fills the room with "clean " air while pushing the air in the room out. Better suited iirc to self isolate than to stick infected in there since infected "air " would be pushed outside the room.
Did I lose you?Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

I ain't 18 anymore LOL.
Either way......on the reverse you'd have to filter both ends correct to basically have all contained with in that room for something airborne ...iirc rightHey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

If the threat is INSIDE the room (sick contagious patient), you want NEGATIVE air pressure in the room, with exhaust going into a filter, or exiting outside in a safe place with no people having access to that area. NEGATIVE keeps the germs from going into other rooms...
If the threat is OUTSIDE the room (nuclear fallout), you want POSITIVE air pressure in the room. Filtered INTAKE air is blown OUT any cracks or crevices, keeping contaminates outside the room.

Don't worry about them. Most new "preppers" have their own little tiny niche of things they WANT to prepare for, and things they definitely don't even want to consider. This is why you don't see many of them serious about NBC preps, or taking defensive preps much further than simply having a rifle or two they never practice with.
They may soon learn what the difference is between having a protective mask on their "list" and having a mask on their SHELF.www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

Think I'm going to put together a pandemic scenario exercise day. Build a isolation room with decon station. Go all out. Waste disposal protocol, decontamination of person and gear, cross contamination Of clothing, etc. Any idea on tagants that can be used to simulate contaminant. Maybe those little tiny clear plastic flakes similar to confetti. Can't remember where I have come in contact with them. I just know they stick to everything and are difficult to see
