Hallelujah! The 2-3 day flooring job finished after day 7 (Monday). The whole house looked like a Dust Bowl victim, and the furniture took a beating as they shoved it all around, and into the other furniture, as they worked. I was fortunate to have the project manager come out on Tuesday to help me dust off every surface in the house, because it was a horrific scene. I had my caregiver assessment this morning, and I hated to have anyone come here with the whole house trashed. I took the day off yesterday and took my husband for a ride in our new wheelchair van, and unpacked about 30 boxes just so I could get to the box marked "coffee" because we were almost out!😂 I even found and unpacked enough groceries to make us a halfway decent dinner with enough left for tonight.
I'll water the garden later - squash plants are jumping right up there, peppers are still producing - I picked two but there are a lot more small ones - and I doubt I will ever need to buy oregano in this lifetime.

Cool, kind of rainy/misty day today (low 60s) - no need to water the garden, so I've been cleaning up some of the unpacking debris and getting it about 30 boxes out to the trash. I still have 50-60 boxes to unpack. I've unpacked and put away some of my home-canned food in the pantry. I've had it packed in boxes in the guest room and the garage. I still have a couple boxes left in the garage and many boxes left in the guestroom.
I started a slow cooker full of split pea and ham soup first thing this morning so dinner is taking care of itself. As long as I'm unpacking, I might as well reorganize and clean out some of the commercial canned goods we're not likely to use. I tossed a lot of old dry goods that were well past their prime (crackers and such), having been hidden behind a lot of other dry goods. Any excess canned goods will go into the new storage closet once the shelves are up. I need to be able to clearly see what I've got to work with instead of moving things around to find the hidden treasures. 😂
Yesterday I took my husband out for a ride in the new van - it's so nice! We only put on about 35 miles, but it was a beautiful day to be out and about.
It was a painful process, but the flooring is done and it's beautiful😁
That's about it for now. After I take a short break, I'll get back to the unpacking...

This is last-push-to-finish week because after the 17th, no more construction allowed until 2024😁 I do love the new floors but today they're getting muddied up by contractors in and out.
The squash plants seem to be loving this cooler weather, and are getting ready to produce blossoms. I really need to get some kind of trellis for them but I also need to unpack another 20 or 30 boxes today. I think I'll see if I can rig up something for the tendrils to climb, maybe even a tomato cage over each one.

Okay, this is exciting! My floor-to-ceiling shelves are going up in the new closet, and I bet I can get all of my FD food and other long-term storage food in there with room to spare for our first aid supplies, vitamins, and other meds. Shelves are also going up on the right side of the closet. This closet will also contain all of the medical equipment needed for my husband, along the blank left wall (and we have a lot of equipment). I'm chomping at the bit to start unpacking all of that stuff and getting it organized. I think I will end up with one spare rolling rack, which can go in the garage as soon as the boxes are out of there (maybe I can use it for my Christmas decorations so I can just roll them into the house every year, and then roll them back to the garage. VA final inspection is tomorrow, and then I can get unpacking. Should have put a TV in there so I could watch college football while I unpack😂
Squash is getting bigger every day and we should get a break in the weather this weekend so I can get a trellis up.

how did the inspection go? Rain here the last 3.5 days...think I saw that old guy with an ark at one point. plants and grass seemed to love it. Hopefully my citrus trees soaked it up as well...Protecting the sheep from the wolves that want them, their family, their money and full control of our Country!

There is another inspector coming after I told the VA that the inspector who showed up was the one who doesn't know how to inspect and doesn't know how to measure anything to see if it's to spec. Otherwise, I've been unpacking like a maniac since last Tuesday. What took me two months+ to pack up is down to about 6 boxes. Been cleaning and getting ready for family coming in Friday.
I put some tomato cages in with the squash and they're climbing😂👍Go figure...
Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🦃

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving also, and that you skipped the Black Friday madness.
