    • Instead of making more red sauce, I moved two more containers to the garden, for a total of seven containers. Now I need fifteen bags of raised bed soil! I pulled some weeds, but still need to tear down the two trellises I'm not using. Then I'll weed spray the remaining weeds around the outside of the containers, fertilize all of last year's raised bed soil, and plant.

I picked more peppers this morning; both bells and jalapenos are still flowering and producing. They're small but tasty!

      • So how are y'all getting along now that the seasons are achainging. We hit 28 degrees this morning. Fall is definitely coming on.early. Usually our first snow is Halloween.
Still fighting my chickens laying 1 egg every other day for the last month. Used to be 4 or 5 a day. Am trying a higher protein feed ( 21%) a week ago and will see what happens..
Never had this problem in 7 years of chicken raising.
My season for gardening pretty much evaporated after I hit 78. Oh well, maybe next year.(GRIN)

Hearing ya'all discussing gardening has been getting me fired up again.

So how's your gardening going ahd what are you doing currently?

I miss reading your tribulations and successes.

        • I'm still picking bell and jalapeno peppers, and cutting/dehydrating herbs (oregano, thyme, chives, sage). The beans are done and I still need to tear down the now-unused trellises and clear the containers so I can start again. The sun shade cloth can come down now that the mornings are cooler and the sun is not as intense. The weather here is still pretty warm - 92o around noon - so I'm going to chance putting in some squash seeds. With my freezer already jam-packed full and the house already full of packing boxes, it's hard to consider going full tilt boogie on the winter garden when I don't really have a lot of room free to store anything more. I have all the ingredients out to can another batch of spaghetti sauce and will have to pack it in a storage box and put it in my office (which is already full of boxes). I'm also going to dry can some onions - a lot of what I cook uses sauteed onions, so why not have them ready to just throw into the pot!

In a moment of insanity, I finally tore down the trellises, pulled weeds, and took down the shade cloth😂 Even the expired eggplant "tree" is in the yard waste can. Now all that remains is bell and jalapeno pepper plants, and the grow bag herbs. I even made a trip out to the motorhome to make sure nothing was crawling around inside, dropped off all the manuals for the RV (which we're getting ready to sell), and grabbed a couple of things my husband left in there. Since I made a tuna noodle casserole yesterday and have leftovers, I don't even need to make dinner. Then I grabbed the trimmer and uncovered all the sprinkler heads, along with trimming where the containers were before I moved them to the garden. Now I need to water what's left in the garden and I'm done out there for the day.

It's been a beautiful day with moderate temperatures and a nice breeze, so it was a good day to get some outside work done. If I can believe the weather liars' forecast, the weather is taking a more autumn-like turn going forward. That makes me more inclined to get outside work done - the many long weeks of 100o temps failed to motivate me!

            • Two days of rain so no gardening. Instead, I canned red sauce and tried out my Tattler lids - nice! I love that I can reuse them. Construction continues as the electricians managed to kill power to the new closet and the GFCI in the guest bathroom. They'll be back today to figure out where they went wrong😂 Painter moved furniture from one bedroom wall and left it piled up next to my side of the bed - now that was handy🙄 I had to move it all so I could get some sleep. • Dang those look good.

On my end, after changing to very high protein chick feed, I'm getting eggs again.
Now I'm thinking there was something to the talk this spring that somebody was messing with store bought chicken feed.
So much being messed with everywhere nowadays, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Heck, I want LEADED GASOLINE back.

I'm glad you're getting eggs again. I guess the quality of chicken feed, like everything else, has deteriorated (or been sabotaged)

                    • Somehow, obviously a shortcoming on my part, it feels like the latter choice.
Watching the eclipse with my pinhole camera (a piece of cardboard with a small hole punched in the middle <grin>

                      • Better late than never, I hope... I put in butternut, spaghetti, and acorn squash seeds. We'll see if anything grows. I had all the weeds out of that container, and now I'll work on weeding the next container and see what else I can plant. With the temperature at only 75o at noon, I guess winter is almost here! With the construction craziness and the increase in my husband's need for assistance, I had to kind of give up gardening for a while. Hopefully I can get back on track. Otherwise, I'll be at the farmer's stand buying my winter veggies to can or freeze.

                          • since I have been gone, cleaned out my summer garden, working on relocating all the grow bags closer to the house. Was able to get a 5 gal bucket full of sweet potatoes. Have them in a cool dry place "curing"...

Other than peppers and herbs, my summer garden is toast! We'll see if the squash seeds germinate - it was a chilly 60o this morning!
