  • Another rainy day so we put the pool stairs together, and then I did housewife "stuff" like laundry, mopping floors, taking out the trash, and more packing. Now that we're in for the day, the sun came out and it's a beautiful evening.

Potatoes look to have shot up about 3" this week, and my lone black soybean sprout is growing but needs some company. I stuck a couple more seeds in there tonight, since tomorrow's forecast = more rain. There's not much else for me to do until it dries up a bit so I can shovel out the last 3 containers and get them moved.

    • will look at my garden soon...I am glad it rained back home most days as my neighbor is sometimes too busy to water my garden for me. We were pretty much in that camper most of this day. We were able to get out and go to some stores to look around at stuff. Tonight we were outside on the shore watching dolphins go by and saw a manatee swim into the dock area....it is very common to see a dozen or so of each every day...we were in our kayak a couple days ago and three manatees came right up to us. They would pop their head up and look at us then swim directly under the kayak, never bumping us. Really pretty cool....

      • Sounds so relaxing! I love camping but looks like those days are over.

Picked 2 tiny Celebrity tomatoes that went red prematurely. Looked over the rest of the garden and all is well. If it doesn't rain by tomorrow, I'll need to water again - the joys of fast-draining grow bags! The yard is also growing like crazy and needs to be mowed and trimmed as soon as things dry up.

        • Got home yesterday....things need mowing and weeding for sure....beans need picking and have 5 corn that have formed. The tomatoes have finally developed some fruit, as there are about 6 little-medium fruit showing themselves. Picked two cukes yesterday and gave one to my daughter. Have about 3 more still growing. Three peppers have decided to continue to grow, so should have some peppers soon. Sunflowers are about 2.5' tall and starting to look proud of themselves. Sweet potatoes are running their vines out of control, and the watermelons are still with flowers. Overall, things going well. Looks like next year more time spent on planting more bean, pepper, cukes and tomato plants. Trying to figure out what to plant for summer garden....any ideas?

          • Summer garden...I usually plant more peppers and tomatoes in early June, then wait until August to start winter squash, beets, radishes, and carrots. June & July are mostly good for starting seeds to transplant in August -September. Too hot for much to grow mid-summer!

            • It looks like I have one more black soybean germinating - it's pushing up the soil on top of it. I'm waiting for my 3-ft. garden stakes to arrive so I can set up a trellis for the beans. Otherwise, I'm just watering daily.

              • yeah, watering daily here as well...will fert again this weekend. Picked about 20 more beans yesterday. Have 9-10 tomatoes that are still green. Watermelon still with blooms but no fruit that I can see and sweet potatoes will take over the yard if I let them...

                • Sweet potatoes are as prolific as kudzu!! I love them but not to the exclusion of the whole garden!

Most of my beans are sprouted. My third black soybean is definitely sprouting (I brushed back the little dirt hump and can see the shooter), and two new pinto beans sprouted overnight😁 The limas are flowering. Almost all of the peppers are flowering. I have a ton of green tomatoes! The potato plants are about a foot high. I spotted a new zucchini growing on a plant I'd almost given up on. I have given up on my original yellow squash and will pull the grow bag out and start over. I implored the sugar snaps to hold off until my new garden stakes for the trellis arrive on Thursday😂

I've taken to watering after dinner when the direct sun is off the garden and the top dirt is very dry-looking, and I'm watering heavily due to the hot, dry weather. It seems to be working 👍

                    • Nice...

I am working this week and the following two weeks covering for other providers on vacation, so I have limited time in the garden. Inspected it last night and found 11 tomatoes....beans are about done, 5 ears of corn and pepper plants shooting up. I need to transplant some mulberry trees and get them ready for next year. If I have time this weekend, I plant on starting some seeds for peppers and more tomatoes to plant in july...

                      • We had a fairly long period of showers today; once again the pool is overfilled and the garden doesn't need watering. I got my 3-ft garden stakes and I'll build a couple of trellises tomorrow (depending on the weather). The sugar snaps are going to fall over pretty soon without a trellis! I also need a trellis for the pinto beans. Otherwise, the yellow squash, zucchini, and cukes are doing incredibly well. In addition to the 3 yellow squash, there are another 4 or 5 just starting to form. Last year I think I got one...

Of course, the shoveling isn't getting done in the rain and tomorrow the garage door opener is being installed (yay!!!).

                          • have 30 tomato fruit showing, 7 ears of corn, one cuke about 1.5"-2" around and 10" long...running the course on him to fatten up. Have to fertilize today...beans starting to die off as they are in full sun.

                            • I need to put up another trellis for my lima and pinto beans, but today was dirt-dumping-grading day plus a bunch of other things, so I may do this after dinner. Otherwise, more of the same...

                              • Today's harvest:
                                1 zucchini
                                1 cucumber
                                1 yellow squash

Watered it all. Put up a trellis for the lima and pinto beans - I'll be honest, it was 99o and I ran out of patience quickly, so the trellis net is kind of crooked but it'll work. So I helped my husband put the chain on his new bike, and by then I was dripping wet! Into the house, shower #2, and that was it!
