The only bad thing is its one of those things that takes some faith. Some of the cached items can have some decent monetary value and I haven't placed one with say a rifle in it and left it for 3+ years that is where the faith part comes in. Places like this help though. I know of at least one person here who has retrieved fairly long term caches. So that experience helps. Btw its always nice to come home to a bunch of bush beans..

Cultivated numerous beds of veggies. Starting to eat a bit out of the garden- chives, lettuce, rhubarb. Raining , -did a lot of inside cleaning and preparing for family visits so that I won't have to do them when the weather gets nicer and I can garden. Still have a lot of garden 'to-do's. Also catching up on dentist, doctor, and routine tests while this year's insurance covers most or all of it. Need to get the wood stacked, but it's too wet out.

bought a ecw sleeping bag system from jrh...
was happy to get it, open it and spread 3 big "bags" around the den.

i thought it added character and charm to the room.
the bride thought i should clean up my mess.
          after some discussion, i won.
i won when i finally decided to read the instructions on how to put it all back together and into the stuff bag, and stored it in the appropriate place !

Cleaned up my "survival" ebooks and made sure they were on all my various ereaders...

Dusted off my data encryption and email encryption software and made sure all my mobile devices could send and receive PGP-encoded messages using the proper keys...

Made sure all my personal files (family pics) and scans of important documents were sorted, distributed, and backed up on a remote server...

I am on a backup and security tangent with all the NSA spying news...

Getting the tower and associated wiring ready for a couple wind turbines. If all goes well, they'll be producing by this weekend. :)

I too am working on fishing skills, as well as practicing preparing & eating the pan and rough fish from the local river (2 blocks away). Yes, the pan fish are small, but they are also caught in larger numbers. Carp, drum, & catfish are thrown away or released by those who do not know how to fix them, and they grow very large. Tonight I ate carp, a fish I was taught from childhood was no good to eat. It was good; I used a recipe and cleaning directions from my state's Dept of Natural Resources specifically for carp. (They put an excellent rough fish cookbook several years ago, free for the asking.) The refuse from cleaning them goes into the garden, to be buried under the walking paths that will become next years planting rows. Talk about fertilizer! PLUS I get the fun of the catching. This is prepping I truly enjoy 'practicing'. In the last month (since I started) I have caught crappies, sun fish, freshwater drum, bullheads galore, flat-head catfish (nice sized...5 lb and up) and even a Northern Pike (a favored game fish in these parts). I have only one caveat...bait must be free. I use nightcrawlers caught in my yard - they work well.

Yeah, they do that once a year. Tends to be infuriating, but also means they get deliveries and stock up even more.

I'd love to see a thread about this installation if you have time.

Still perfecting my fishing skills - tonight we fish a new spot on the river, instead of the lagoon (where we are generally pretty successful). Also finishing putting up some pickled carp.

Went to the local gun show yesterday and bought an extra .50 cal. ammo can. Got a few useful items this past week while scrapping metals for recycling for FRN's. The most useful was a cast iron cooking pot with a lid (not a dutch oven). Needs cleaning and re-seasoning, but is in pretty good shape.
Last year I found a family size (8x10') cabin tent that was being pitched to the trash because one of the support poles was missing. Decided that it was time to get it out of mothballs and see if I could fix it. By using a piece of metal, electrical conduit, and a couple of connectors, I was able to replace the lost piece, and gained a good piece of camping gear in doing so.
