Spock, Prednisone is a corticosteroid used as an immunosupressant. The drugs the athletes abuse are anabolic steroids that are synthetic male hormones that mimic testosterone. Very different drugs but both types are bad if used long term.

I've never lost any livestock to them but one of my neighbors has. One old woman in this area got attacked by a pack of dump dogs while she was walking out to check her mailbox. She got bit several times before she could get away from them and get back in the house. Deputy went out and shot 2 of them, but the rest got away. I don't have any compunction at all about shooting the damn things. I've shot them with pistols, rifles and shotguns, whatever I have with me when I see a dog or cat that I know doesn't belong here. My neighbors do the same thing.
Happens around here a lot too. Back about 15 years ago I was out doing some delivery work, and saw one of the biggest herds of deer running out of some woods into a field not to far from here. I pulled to the side of the road to watch a moment, because I had never seen anything like this before. I started counting the deer as they got closer to me across the field, and lost count at around 70.....and they still kept pouring out of the trees across the field. Didin't take long to figure out why.

Biggest pack of wild dogs broke the tree line about 30-40 yds. right behind the end elements of the herd. We have some coyotes around here now, but these were DOGS. They were all sorts of different breeds and sizes, and there is no doubt that they were all strays and drop-off's.
Wild dogs are a serious threat in some places, and because of this and the coyotes, my cousin used to be real strict about not letting her three boys play in the woods right behind her house when they were young. Just inside the tree line was ok, because they had a rope swing up in a large tree there, but out of her sight from the kitchen was forbidden. Couldn't blame her for that one after seeing that pack on that late fall afternoon.
