    Great thread!

Thanks SC, I thought about this for a while and after I read Cody Lundins 98.6 degrees book I saw his "survival" fanny pack. I decided to make my own with my own twist. And a BOB can still be worn or a camel back, but this is the get up and go pack. I just love the lightweight feel, and like I said, it goes with my cut off blue jean shorts :)

To prevent shifting from side-to-side with a fanny pack, sew a small strip of cloth to an easily reachable section of the waist strap. The cloth should be sewed in the center section leaving about an inch and a half on both sides of your sewing location. Then install the male & female sections of a snap on either end of the cloth and now you have an anti side-to-side device that can be looped through a belt loop and snapped to hold said fanny pack on said fanny.

Oh in a pinch you can also do this with a good sized safety pin. Just safety pin the strap to your denim pants/shorts, and this will also stop the side-to-side motion. But dont do it too often or with too heavy of a pack as it can wear a hole in your wardrobe if you do.

I like cotton balls with vaseline for a fire starter. I would also add some hexamine tabs (or esbit) for a wet fire starter. The "tabs" are also good for a cold camp to heat up water without a fire. But I didn't see a cook pot? You can get a stainless cup with foldable handles that will slip over the bottom of the water bottles. If we keep on going, we will have you a full sized pack with a trailer to haul it all in :)

At least you have one, now use it, and build upon what you have started.

I have tried those fire tabs and I think dryer lint is a cant miss and I have an endless supply. Also, I want to try and fit a small bottle of hand sanitizer in here, good for the hands and toes and for fire starter as well.

On the dryer lint... be careful if you have youngins at your household. Lots of their clothing and linins are made of non flamable materials, or treated with such. Byron kerns had a funny story about that at one of his classes I attended. Good thing it happened to them in training and not a true survival situation. That was something I never thought of till he told us this.

Be careful with the "wetfire"tabs they do have a shelf life... ask me how I know!
