You can use regular buckets from Home Depot and only Home Depot there lids have the rubber seal on them lowes does not. I have used them and there are great and work fine you don't have to go out and spend allot of money. Hope this helps

Lowes has changed there stuff and now sells both along with "Food Grade" buckets, guess they got tired of being left out

I have gotten stuff from Emergency Essentials but mostly pack my own. The stuff I get from EE is usually freezed dried stuff and I watch closely for stuff going on sale. Just got one last week, they had a sale on Freezed Dried Fruit Combo and Whole Egg Powder. The Fruit Combo was on sale @ $50 off normal price for the case. Just a note that there is a place of the online order screen that you can enter "unmarked boxes" and they will come in a plain brown box with no company logo. That's how I order my stuff.

Elite, thank you for the useful information. So goat lady, wheat, beans and oats are non gmo then right? I guess they still can spray the crops though but like I said buying organic is too expensive.

Correct, elittle. Many folks confuse GMO with hybrid also. As stated, my biggest concern with ordering any freeze dried or dehydrated food items is knowing WHERE they were grown AND processed.

That statement re: alfalfa is not quite true. Monsanto just released the seed last fall for it's 1st commercial planting, most will happen this spring. I had forgotten about sugar beets cause I only use cane sugar anyway, never eat papaya, and grow my own open pollinated summer squash.

Nothing to "chance"- especially if you read the notes that tell you that you are NOT charged when you first put in an order with Visa, Mastercard or Discover.

Shipping is actual cost also as noted. Email with the order and city/state it's going to as Elittle said. JRH doesn't do the "mark each can up an additional $7. and then have a $12. ships any order" GIMMICK that some of these others do. Their is no "free shipping" from any where on food folks- it's simply factored into the price ahead of time. All it takes is a little math and understanding to see that.

I tried the JHR site but I couldn't get a shipping cost unless I proceeded with placing the order. I can't chance that so I have to look at some of the other companies.

the only GMO food commercially available at this time is Star brand corn, cotton, soy, rape seed (cannola oil seeds), 1 type of strawberry still being tested and I think 1 tomato still being tested. All trademarked via Monsanto. There may be a particular rice available to overseas markets but not in the U.S. The important item for me is that many of the freeze dried and possible dehydrated foods are produce imported from China to the U.S. and procesed here. Those I will not purchase or eat. Check with the company and/or read the labels on the cans/buckets.

So by and large it looks like what you are saying is that most of the food is non-GMO, is that correct?

JRH LTS food is the "Rainy Day Food" brand from "Walton Feed". You might try your local health food store for non-GMO grains and compare the cost to buying online and shipping to your house.
