I've got some of these 4-5 years old and so far good to go (i hope). I did have one fail but that was my oldest one I've had maybe 6-7 years that I used for hunting/camping trips. Lots of wear and tear and bouncing around in and out of vehicles. It split a side seam about half way down. I've stored them all standing up.

I checked mine and they all look okay, I store mine standing up but I doubt that could cause a split seam. Do you guys and gals keep them tightly sealed or does anyone leave them slightly cracked open to allow for 'breathing' as the temperature changes? Probably not a good idea, it was just a thought.Brokedownbiker

Like Hit and Miss, I had an issue with the leaking spout, so I was never able to store mine on it's side. However, I typically stand it up and store it that way. Never had an issue and it was frozen once on a camping trip some years ago. Not solid, but enough to where the water wouldn't come out. It's still going like a champ. Maybe because it's older? I use blitz, change the water in them every 6 months. Had them a little over a year now I think. They come 3 to a case when ordering, just FYI.

@Matt - I have a thread out here somewhere asking about this very specific container...LD3 warned me away from these...I bought a couple from K-Mart (not blitz but midwest brand) and they so far have held up. Don't know if being on their side would cause them to fail but I would definitely let the company know.
Here is the can I am using: http://www.midwestcan.com/static.asp?path=2851,3477"It's a trap!!!!" -- Admiral Ackbar

Thanks for all the replies and data and everything. I just got it because I needed another one. I'm going to go with a different kind for the storm shelter to be purchased later this year. Good news was I didnt have all my eggs in one basket so no harm done even if there had been a storm. I will let the company knowand see what they have to say too and i will let you all know what comes of it.Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence
