Survival Reference Guide?

Is there any single book that is set up as a reference guide that has all the basics in it like, how to make soap, how to do first aid, how to build a generator, how to make a radio, how to set up animal traps, etc. etc. etc.

Like a one-stop-shop of everything we'd need to rebuild?

About the best for homesteading skills would be Carla Emery's Encyclopedia Of Country Living, early editions. For technical stuff you might find a 4 volume set of How Things Work tucked away in a used book store somewhere. For medical stuff Where There Is No Doctor and Where There Is No Dentist are good basics.

I have a half dozen of the early "Foxfire" series (which is probably where I got my start. I've had them since I was a kid) which are great for the homesteading stuff, but I was hoping for more of a single purchase I could make to tuck away into my eRoom. I realize that's probably a pretty tall order. I'll definitely be checking out your suggestions though!

the later day saints have a preparedness manual on line that you can download for free - I think its a good guide

There are lots and lots of books out there. " Emergency Food Storage and Survival Handbook" by Peggy Layton," Survive the End of the World as we Know It "by James Wesley Rawles,"Crisis Preparedness Handbook" by Jack Spigarelli, theres" Are You Ready" by FEMA to name a few.

It is kind of like they say that the Dictionary is a book about everything. No one book will go in depth enough to cover everything. The ones mentioned above are great starting places. If you search our arcives, you will find tons of books and articles you can use. Most of us download them and print them out and add them to our home preparedness libraries.

Dude...thanks a million....I was looking for a site exactly like that......Would much rather have as much how to guides in a binder when the times comes...and that site has a wide array of info....

For medical info I highly recommend Wilderness Medicine Beyond First Aid. Just the right amount of info one might need

I second the motion on Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living I purchased it first in early 80's and have one on hand ever since.

There is no one book out there however if someone was to write it and make it affordable you would be a rich person but boy that would be one big book.
