I purchased some mainstay ration bars. I had not tried them but having a 5yr shelf life they intrigued me. I bought one of each size to determine the amount of space and calories to see which pack/container /vehicle they would go in. The smaller one is 3x6x1 weighs about 3oz in a 3 sectioned bar that totals 1200 calories. Each serving contains 23g fat, 7g saturated fat, 23mg sodium, 46g carb, 2g fiber, 14g sugar and 3g protein. It has vitamin A, C, Calcium, Thiamin, Niacin, D, E, B6 & 12, Folic Acid, Phosphorus, Magnesium and Pantothenic Acid. I have no idea what half of that stuff is but maybe it means something to you.

Thanks for the review. I bought a few of these and the SOS brand variety to keep in vehicle kits as these are the only thing I've found that can take the heat and not expire rapidly. Nice plus is that these are designed as lifeboat rations and supposedly do not require much water for your body to digest. Haven't tried them yet since they've got a 5 year expiration date and I don't have any about to expire.

Can't see having something I havent tried and depending my life and my families on it, not trying to be mean, just something to think about. It was a whole $3 for the family to try, it will be less than $10 for me to thoughly test.
My son and I have agreed to use them in a supplemenatl role during hunting season as well while hiking and if there are issues I will post those as well.
Also I was able to iron the foil back shut which is a plus, that can even be accomplished in camp by heating metal and placing/pressing it on there.
