Both his grandchildren were able to get in to see him, older brother did not make it in time and came in just 5 hours after he passed. The paperwork is crazy after someone dies. The bank locked his account down, even though I was on the account, had a will and was POA (and I now know POA is null and void upon someones death). They said it was because he had >$5k in bank. Then two days later when SS and VA sucked their money back out, as he died on the 28th, he was under the $5K mark and I was allowed access again...WTH??? So, I was on the account as the POD (payable on Death), but apparently their 'banker' that set that up didn't do something right and so their attorney's said that was no good. They assure me that they have opened a case on that banker.... So, being a smart a$$, I asked the little banker so, if he had $5001 I cannot have access but at $4999.99 I am good to go....she was very nice and said, yeah, doesn't make sense....that was Wells Fargo....
I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. Losing a parent is such a horrible feeling, regardless of how many years you had them. Then to have to battle with the bank adds insult to injury. Prayers for you and your family🙏💙🙏

    • Generac - best investment we ever made. With my husband on life-sustaining medical equipment depending on power, we came through a 9-hour outage with nothing but 3 digital clocks needing to be reset. We're having a second propane tank installed on Monday; the one tank is good for about 4 days but better safe than sorry.

      • yeah, we had nothing...we stayed in between the storm bands pretty much the whole storm. as the storm moved north and the bands twisted it was just like a screw being twisted and we stayed in a perfect dryish area. Stlll had prob 25-30 mph winds and gusts to maybe 35-40 at times but not damage and no power outage...

Yeah, adding another tank would be wise...

        • Yes, we don't live near the beach, and it's pretty unexciting out here in the rural-burbs, but after watching videos of the devastation in NC, as well as GA, SC, TN, and VA, I'll just hang out here in peace and quiet.

          • We are camping in NE GA now. We are right on the SC line. Not planning on going across the line as I don't know whats missing/washed out and we are here to check out this area of GA for possible land to buy. We want to get out of FL...too high of prices and insurance costs continue to rise and we do not see an end to it. Plus both kids are out of FL and grandchild(en) will not be close. We have a place in SE GA we are building a cargo container home with solar, and looking for a place further north for cooler weather and closer to kids in TN....tiny homes is all we need, and give me some land to build a compound for kids top come visit...

            • After what I've seen from the mountains (my favorite place) after Helene, I think I'll just stay put and take the hurricanes as they come.

              • we are hunkering down....putting all preps into play. Forecast a Cat 2 with 75mph and gusts to 100mph when it comes by. We were here for Charlie and others that were this strong. Charlie'e eye came right over us. We have had a ton of trees removed since then, but neighbor has one I don't like.

Thought to mention. I lived a long time on 100# propane tanks. Trick was I got the propane regulator for a camper. It allows you to hook up two tanks and will auto switch from one tank to another. I used 4 100# tanks and paired them off two by two. Only kept one of each turned on at a time.
Was nice to not have to wake up to an empty tank.
Lots of propane companies will deliver and pickup 100# tanks.
Was cheaper than haing the smaller tanks refilled.
Might help out with your genny.

                  • We have two 250# tanks that are tied together so the first one will auto-switch to the second tank. Our delivery company will refill on demand, and are relatively close to where we live. Unless the whole world falls apart, I'm confident they could refill before our 8 days of propane for the Generac would run out. In a serious crisis, I'd have to pull out the small generator and use some of that gas we store.

                    • Having a plan is what is important. You have a plan and a back-up plan and thats all you can do. Keep trying to tweak it if you feel it is needed.

                      • The garden is frozen after the past week of freezing temps. Looking toward spring to restart if I can find the time. For right now, with conditions here, it's a blessing that I don't feel pressured to work outside when it's more of a frustration than a stress reliever.

                        • I am not doing a garden this year. We want to get the CONEX home finished, and it is close to being done. Once done we will be spending more time there as GS is only 45min away from there. I just do not see that I will have to time to care for a garden, going back and forth between the two places....
