I took the plunge while I was home on leave and picked up a Sig Sauer P226 E2. Great handling, good price and it just called my name over and over again. I didn't get the opportunity to take it out for a spin, but it's at the top of my list of things to do when I return.

Sig 226 is a great gun. When you get back you will be happy. You might have someone start "collecting" 9mm ammo for you while you are gone and store it.

Technically, I think the .380 used to be called a "9mm short" also. It's the same caliber, just less powder behind it. I like it because it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. As for the Glock debate, they're good guns, but you pay a premium for the name. My XD-9 is at least as reliable, for about $300-$400 less.
Bearman, I don't mean this as a flame but every gun show/store I've been to (and thats a bunch) has XD's and Glocks priced nearly the same with the XD's usually a little more. I own many of each.

That comment was based on buying an XD-9 for $542 and a couple of months later buying a Glock for nearly $850. The glock had night sights, etc. on it. I've seen some Glocks lately that are actually cheaper than the XD, and especially now. They stopped making the XD-9 and are now making the XDM which is an XD-9 with beveled edges. Oh, they also added nearly a hundred dollars to the price....

Do you feel a big difference between them? The Glock was stolen almost immediately, so I don't have a basis for comparison.

Oh, I've already got a collection going as I already own a 9mm. But just like many things in life, one can't ever have too much of something.

Bearman, I paid just under $500 for my XD45c right after they came out and I gave $580 for my Glock 27 With night sights a few years before.

I like the XDM but I don't need to add another pistol to the stable right now.( don't tell the wife I said that) ; )

I can tell a difference between the grip angles but to me it's not a big deal. I have a friend though that can't switch between the two.

I think it's the grip angle that's giving me a problem. I can barely hit the red side of a barn with the XD, but hand me my Ruger .45 LC and I have been hitting beer cans at 50+ yards. Not even close with the XD. The problem is that the Ruger is cowboy type, with a swing-out gate for loading. i.e. it's not fast at all. Now, I run into the debate of the XD, with an 18 rd mag that I can't hit with vs. the six shots available with the Ruger that I can just about write my initials with at 25 yards. I think maybe I just need to switch to a Single Six or something similar. Then again, I could just get a laser for the XD, eh?

There is nothing wrong with a single six and in fact they make EDC kydex holsters for them too. Use what fits

Hey Bearman there's nothing at all wrong with shooting a revolver. Have you ever heard of Jerry Miculek? MAN! That guy is fast with a revolver! Like Matt says use what fits. Better to have one round on target than 10 that missed.

Ruger P95...basically at the suggestion of a trusted friend. I didn't have any 9mm at the time (not a real big fan of them) but my friend convinced my that it was a worthwhile investment given the popularity of the 9mm round. I familiarized myself with his P95 (his EDC, by the way) and when a fair deal came around via private sale, I bought one. I don't carry it, nor shoot it often, but know it well enough to snatch it up and put lead on target.

I have 9mm and 40 S&W in my home. I love shooting both but when it comes down to it I shoot the Glock 17 better. So I would rather shoot someone with a gun I can shoot true everytime than poke and hope with a bigger cal.

Both my husband and I have XDM9's and then this past Christmas I purchased an XD9 subcompact for conceal carry. We chose the XD's because we are both left handed and they have an ambidextrous magazine release. So far I am very happy with my XD's and have not had any problems with them. I have run around 2,000+ rounds through my XDM9 and only had a misfeed once.

The shooting school that I train at locally, they are all Glock folks, but I have never liked the way the Glock fit my hands and I have to say I like the ambidestrous magazine release. The other school that train at encourages you to find a gun that fits you and is reliable, not a particular brand.

I've got three G19's. I started carrying with one and liked it. They are reliable, durable, and have large capacity mags readily available. I also am trying to follow the 2 is one 1 is none and 3 or more is even better rule.
