  • pocket rig is THE way to ccw.

coat pocket if the weather's bad, front pants pocket if it's nice or hot. The Kahr CM9 is one sweet choice for that rig, too. I ccwed IWB for 10 years, and it sucks, frankly, especially when bad weather makes you fasten that outer coat, and maybe also wear gloves. You are talking 2.5-3.5 seconds to make a ccw draw from under TWO garments, to get off a good shot. Since you can charge the attacker and break his neck if you have that much "free" time, why bother with such a rig?

with your hand on the gun, still in your pocket, you are 1/2 second (including reaction time) from having that gun pointed at the bad guy, which will suffice to make him flee, at least 3/4 of the time, if you have left him an escape route and drawn while you still had time and space in which for him to notice the gun and stop. It's stopped men for me 5x now. Almost any cop will tell you the same thing. It's pretty rare for guys to force you to fire, much less hit them solidly and repeatedly, with powerful ammo.

Perhaps those are your times with the garments you wear
as the quote goes a man's gotta know his limitations
Why would you bother pulling a gun on anyone that you can simply "snap their neck" as you say? If they are a threat that requires a gun then that tactic may not work. If I can move it will be laterally or backwards gaining space and earning the weapon most likely. If forward a blade can be used rather than H2H which most need to equalize the situation as criminals are not in the habit of picking on equal or more powerful opponents and look for the weaker prey before moving in. 5 times huh? Might look at that a little closer
I also live in free America where open carry is allowed so moving to a outerwaistband holster is more desirable and quicker when wearing coats.
Whats the plan when faced with multiple threats and the pocket rocket is jammed after round 1?

right! and the REASON that you need a gun is that you don't have the time. I KNOW you aint any faster than the times quoted above, if you have a coat over your concealing garment and gloves on, dude. :-) nobody is. I am still every bit as fast for the CCW draw as as i was 35 years ago, when I was blowing people's minds with 7.0 second El prez's, concealed under a shirt, facing up range the way it's supposed to be done, without mag pads, without magwell funnels, without a comp or optic, with full power .45 ammo.

nobody is going to put in the thousands of hours I put into ccw belt draw, man.

the "hand on gun, in pocket" start is their only hope of having the needed speed, especially in bad weather. I started working on it at age 12, hundreds of hours per year, until i gave up on ccw belt carry in 1984. It just aint worth all the hassle. I started ccwing a 1911 gm in 1968. Where were you, hmm? :-)

Was that in IPSC shoots or IDPA?

I want to get better at my shooting skills and was wondering what competitions might be best for that.
