AK fanatics tend to get into debates on milled versus stamped receivers about like AR guys get into debates over the brands they buy. I know the Russians went from milled to stamped early on in the AK production, so that might give you an idea as to the longevity of the stamped receivers. I tend to think neither has a great advantage over the other, at least not for the lifetime you would be using it

this. its the tapco g2 trigger. besides polishing the contact areas i dont see how you could tweek them to much.

I don't personally care for the triggers, but I've learned to like them. Prefer the old school, no hop skip and jump Chinese triggers but alas that ship has long sailed.

Being an American made AK component, in the back of my mind I don't trust it. Really really dirty it can not reset- making you have to flick it forward with your trigger finger. If your going to clean just one part of that rifle, clean around the trigger. One time their was two deer, one got clipped right off the bat, the other moved only a few feet into some thin brush, he can thank Tapco's crappy trigger for his life. Moral of the story- keep that area clean.

Stamped vs. milled- I never owned a milled till not that long ago. Wife commented- "why is this one so much heavier than our others?" It dawned on me- the milled receiver. Their is a weight difference, you might not feel it, but others using it may.

On the longevity issue relating to the stamped- having a Chinese that has over 30K rounds through it that's stamped, I don't think it's too much of a concern.

Are we going to live long enough in the PAW to shoot 30,000 rounds in anger? Prolly not...

Finished the Panteao video of Sonny's- great stuff, everyone should buy it. He does talk a lot during the video and compared to classes, he's very tame :) It's the little nuances that might not seem important when your new that end up making you more efficient later. While some of these may seem insignificant, they are NOT.

Thanks for the input all.... LD3 considering your marriage to the commie rifle platform and looking back on what you have purchased over the years. If you were me what AK currently available under say $1200 would you buy.. Yeah I know im asking you to tell me what to buy,, LOL..sort of. I just don't want to buy yet another AK and be less than thrilled about it. It's hard enough swallowing a $1200 commie gun pill.

Again, not LD3 (sorry) but for your price range the Arsenal is the way to go. Problem though...

While the AR market has dropped to pre-panic levels or pretty close, the AK market has yet to come back down to normal levels. Demand still exceeds supply. There are still Romanian AKs floating around the gun show loop for north of $700 when they were sitting at $450 pre-panic. So if you are looking to sell, now is the time. But buying?

I'd personally look at and wait for the Arsenal SLR-107F. I picked one up before deciding I had too many guns and not enough time. Seemed well enough made for a stupid commie rifle and I liked the -74 brake they added on. Would be a good choice.

(see guys, I say nice things about the AK platform from time to time)

            Justanother-

            Full stock or folder?

            Here's a nice folder-

Drawbacks- no muzzle brake/flash hider nor any threads. I'm sure that could be rectified easily though.

Pros- very slick little unit, seems lighter than some of our others. Technically it's the boy's first full size AK, but I get a lot of use out of it also. :) Very compact

It's listed at $1099. IMO it's pretty much worth it, this isn't a Romanian parts gun.

This one is a "beaut" IMO and I've been waiting to see them come in stock again-

This ****** is heavy as all get out, I guess the milled receiver-

Haven't seen them list the SGL series as being available since last fall.

The 21-61's are nice, and in 2008 or so they ran some Christmas special at about $500. or so for them. Should have bought more.

Mags I think you probably got covered :)

Thanks LD3,, I am pretty much set on the SLR107 but Im always open for educated input.. As far as the mags yeah Im good to go. In fact one of my suppliers has the Arsenal inc polymer m47w Bulgarians for $27 approx and I have 40 or so mixed 30 and 42 rnd Bulgarian polymers as well as a bucket load of throw away Tapco's already so I may pick up some of the Arsenal ones and see what the fuss is about.. as far as the AK I have been eye ballin this may be my new date for the prom

That's a nice one. Looks just like the side folders we have but with the threaded barrel. I bought them during the rush and they were all that was on the site, or I would have bought the one with the threaded barrel.

Kinda pricey IMO, but for the "I've seen the light" folks that are moving over from that Mattel toy to a man's rifle, this one offers some of the AR style features- mainly the thumb safety on the left hand side. However you can still also operate the safety via the standard AK safety as well.

Was able to use one of these or extremely similar that a friend had here once. It was nice.

Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"
