  • Training videos for AK

    1. No I don't think I can perfect tactical use of any weapon by watching videos
    2. No LOWDOWN this doesn't mean I am going over to the darkside and abandoning the AR platform. ;)

Now that I got that out of the way. I have a couple AK's and would like to start learning how to properly use them. I figured a few videos from quality and respected teachers would be a good start so I can get a better understanding of what types of doctrine exist for the AK platform.

    Thanks in advance

LOL. Give it time, you'll see the light ;)

Beyond the Firearm 2 by Sonny Puzikas is probably hands down the best AK video on the market. Their was a first video but it wasn't as well made and while it covered some neat stuff, honestly the Beyond the Firearm 2 is probably a better starting point.

OK Fine Im probably going to get rid of one of my other AK's and go buy a Arsenal SLR107. But that doesnt mean I will enjoy shooting it, ok i'll enjoy it but I will NEVER admit it. Now all I need to do is find one at a modest price :D

All joking aside I may even sell my Colt HBAR to fund a good AK.. I know,, heresy. But how am I going to honestly ascertain what I am capable of with the AK using a $400 surplus parts gun.. My AK's have the worst trigger of just about any gun I have ever owned. Sure I can hit a man size AR500 target at 300yds with mine but they are FAR from quality. So any ideas on other makes and models I should look at besides the Arsenal SLR107?? I would like to keep the gun under $1200 just because I need to add a red dot also and my natural good looks just dont buy as much as they did in the old days.

Sadly, you missed the bubble on selling a Colt during the frenzy... Now HBAR's are not moving too well as everyone wants lightweight, unless you find the right buyer.... Harder to do now than 6 months ago. But AK's seem to be holding high in price, so you will pay almost top dollar. It's all about timing...

Major +1 on Travis Haley's "Adaptive Kalash" video... I like his teaching style.

Keep watching the K-var site, although I haven't seen much come up in x39 there for about a month. Even during the height of the rush, they would occasionally pop up with one model or another. I've been waiting for a big shipment to come in, them not sell too quick and then them start to discount them again- but I haven't seen it yet.

X39 is coming down though, and that's a good thing.

Got that Panteao video with Sonny on it in- only about 30-40 minutes in but he's already discussed and shown some small points that make the purchase worthwhile IMO.

looking at the Arsenal Inc. guns would you go for the stamped SLR107 or the forged SAM7? The cost difference is not all that much, what $200? Is the trigger, bbl, accuracy better with the SAM?? I like a nice smooth even break in my triggers.. I can see no real world value of a milled receiver over a stamped in the AK is there something else in the SAM series im missing?

If I'm not mistaken, most Arsenals use the Tapco trigger group to maintain the 922r compliance. Not 100% positive, but recall seeing that somewhere. So really no difference in the trigger between the two.

AK fanatics tend to get into debates on milled versus stamped receivers about like AR guys get into debates over the brands they buy. I know the Russians went from milled to stamped early on in the AK production, so that might give you an idea as to the longevity of the stamped receivers. I tend to think neither has a great advantage over the other, at least not for the lifetime you would be using it
