I love this thread because it is a reminder that it isnt the equipment used, it's the person pulling the trigger. If you are comfortable with a given rifle and optic and you are effective with it, who cares who made it and how much you paid. I have an old enfield jungle carbine with a 1.5-6x32 weaver scope that has put more venison on the smoker and in the freezer than I can begin to count. These are off hand shots ranging from 10feet to 325 yards. If you can drop whitetail at 300 yards, what more do you need?
I also have an older Ruger M77 in .308 with a Bushnell scope that killed a black bear on a hunt I went on in Maine three years ago lazered at 427 yards. I was off by a total of 3" from my point of aim but well within margin of error.
I have had blue collar bolt action hunting rifles my entire life. Savage, Ruger, Remington, Winchester, Marlin... and they have been working just fine and at pretty good distances. What more can a feller ask for?

Crappy savage at 800. Spotter called the first couple "hold hard to the left." So honestly the grouping might have been better. I was just happy to get solid hits at that range, especially with such a "crappy" rifle.

      Then...

A little further out.... That cheap crappy arse Springfield Armory Gen II scope only has bullet drop brackets to 1,000 yards so I had to make drop adjustments the old fashioned way past that. That target did take 3 shots to get properly ranged in at. Then... well you see the results.

Not bad for a guy with such a cheap arse crappy $500. rifle and $500. scope, a guy who since he advocates using so much ammo in training and practice must be into "spray and pray" and must not care about accuracy right.??? Maybe it's all those rounds down range in practice (not just talking about it while eating donuts) that made these shots at these ranges possible? You think? No can't be, surely I can become a decent shot by just watching some videos online and dry firing to save money.... LMAO

Gotta put in the time, gotta put in the work. These targets are the results of the work put in during roughly a dozen rifle classes dealing with distance work, (i.e, not including CQB related classes) the results of thousands of rounds of MATCH ammo in a bolt gun put down range over the years. I still have a long way to go before I'm happy.

I think the reality of it is. Is that MOST guns will shoot more accurately than the shooter. As was said before. If you as the shooter are doing your part, then just about any modern rifle can be accurate. By doing your part I mean practicing, and being consistent. If you can be consistent that means you can overcome any problem you might have. Be it environmental such as wind or cold or heat. Or a scope that just isn't quite zeroed for the distance.

While I certainly agree, it takes time and rounds to get good, I do not believe anyone that's good can pick up any rifle and be good with it at distance. If you're not familiar with the ballistics of the round you're shooting, it's gonna be dicey at best. You're correct LD, time and ammo. I've got a long way to go as well. My nemesis range is 1000 right now. I can hit it but not consistently enough to say I'm in the '1000 yard club'. Keep up the good work.

I've got a savage as well. 300 WM. An old fella once told me 'Savage rifles are kind of like fat girls. There's nothing wrong with having one until your friends see you with it!'.

My Savage 12FCV in .223 shoots extremely well with handloads. Here is a 0.178 4 shot group. Anyone who says that Savage is junk is completely uniformed.
