I love shooting the .22 LR. I was at the range this tuesday and spent about 5 hours shooting my .22s - then I moved to the big guns.

When I shoot 100 - 200 yards I prefer CCI standard velocity. There are better rounds but I can usually find CCI everywhere and it also shoots better than some match ammo brands - it's also relatively cheap.

When I shoot closer ranges, I use any ammo that is cheap including Remington and Federal from WallyMart. I actually shot up a whole brick last Tuesday. Its just fun and no recoil. My thumb did get a little sore from loading the mags.

I have had terrible luck with the Remington bulk pack, in every one of my semi-auto 22's. Too many duds to keep track of. I have almost zero problems with the Federal bulk packs, however. My 13-year old daughter shoots 1" groups at 100 yards on a regular basis with her 10/22 with a cheap Tasco scope. Works as well in a Buckmark, also. I have tried the Wolf match, but it won't cycle the 10/22 properly. It is, however, very accurate out of a bolt 22.

My oldest 22 is Remington 22 Target Standard velocity 40 grains 1150 fps. i got 1500 rds as a gift in 92ish and i think my buddy gave it to me because it was old then. LOL it fires at about a 10% failure rate and maybee 25% of the ones that do fire are underpowered, but all have ejected fine, they just sound light. so thats ammo thats over 20 yrs old. i have 200 left and only plink with them.

currently i have thousands of rounds of Winchester 555's 36 grn, 1250FPS. they are nice shooters with very few failures. I also have thousands of Goldens that are fine too. (some have had bad luck but not me) and i have a brick of thunderbolts that are good. Ive only had issues with bulk ammo that is over 20 years old. at the ten year mark they seem to be fine still.

CCI's i have never had a problem with and consider it to be premium ammo and hunting ammo.

        btw, my 22's are a Ruger 22/45 a Ruger 10/22 and a Marlin 39a

I think overall .22's are the same except when it comes to Remington yellow jackets. They are very fast and good performing bullet.
