  • 22lr ammo choices/ favorites?

Looking for feedback on bulk 22lr. I have been buying nothing but minimags, stingers and aguila's super colibre. I think I can agEr saving cash by buying bricks however looking for opinions. I heard from more than on person that federal bulk is garbage, I am looking at winchester in a white box it has same specs as mini mags. I bought a brick of it but won't have tome until next week to let some out. I did clean up the 10-22 real good and the 22a real good. Wish me luck and please give me your opinions

No matter what you decide on please make sure you shoot some of it to make sure the weapon runs and has accuracy.
I love Stingers in my 10-22 and am shooting the Remington bulk box hollow points with no issues in the Marlin, Nylon 66, Ruger 10-22 and Ruger Mk1.

That's because you shoot them up!

          j/k.

I prefer the Remmington subsonic rounds. They are hollow point and non-jacketed.
I can keep them on a squirrel's head at 30 paces offhand with my ol' Winchester 67.

I had a neighor give me a brick of CCI, age unknown, but I'd guess 10 years at least, probably more. I went out to try them last weekend in my 10/22 and about 1 in 10 had the back of the case blow off when it fired. Needless to say, they're going in the garbage.

My regular bulk ammo of choice has been the Remington Golden Bullets in the 550 round boxes for a while now. I like the Aquila regular sub-sonic when I can find them locally. We have quite a bit of the federal bulk boxes but reserve that for plinking only out of the bolt guns as loads are not consistant at all and often times cause the autos to jam.

LK, you may want to check the chamber in your 10/22 to make sure there is not lead build up in there. It sounds like the bolt may not be going all the way into battery allowing the gun to discharge without the rear of the case being supported in the chamber.

Thanks. Does 22lr not store well? I'm looking to stock, I thought ammo would last as long as honey.

That did cross my mind, but haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet. I was trying out a new BX-25 mag in it and it would do it about twice per mag under rapid fire. In each case, half of the back of the case came off.

22s will store ok but the primer is usually the culprit in going bad. I store mine in ammo cans but like I said i have had mixed results with some brnads like the CCI Stingers not firing after a few years. On the same note I have fire some brands like Remington that were 20 yrs old without a hitch. All ammo must stay away from oils and I limit the air exposure by keeping the cans sealed so the the humidity/temp changes doesnt get to them. Make sure you rotate your stock, turtles always need thinnin :)

jimmy, Winchester makes two different bulk packs, both come in white boxes. The Xpert is a standard velocity hollow point, the Wildcat is a high velocity solid. I keep some of both on hand. I also have some ten year old Federal and they work just fine.
Each gun has different likes/dislikes, but I find I get consistent results (and good accuracy) out of the Winchester Super X High Velocity, both the 37 grain hollow points and the 40 grain solids. This comes in 50 round, silver colored boxes, no bulk packs. It's every bit as good as CCI Mini Mags and cheaper too.
CCI Blazer works good in my guns as well.

I have very few bad Federal bulk paks from Walmart, Winchester and Remington was a different story. Best luck with the fewest problem even after being stored for a long while has been Velocitor from CCI.

Works great in my Ruger 10/22, Remington Nylon 77, Ruger Mark ll and 22/45 Mark lll and my CMMG conversion in the M4. Never have had more than a few rounds out of thousands shot.

If you are looking for accuracy try Eley/Tenex or Wolf competition ammo.

                        Good luck.

Thanks guys, I got out and shot the winchester, it was hollow point and it did well in the 10/22 with the 10 round mags, in the 25 rounders butler creak metal top. Horribly. But shot well in the 22a, and sons marlon bolt action.

I agree with 45B, as far as bulk federal is best, winchester is 2nd, remington is last. If you want some good bulk try federal auto match it comes in a white and blue box with 350 in the box instead of 500 or 500. I got mine at Walmart and it shot groups about half the size as my other bulk 22 ammo.
