  • non-firearm options?

    Hello,
    First of all, i'm NOT anti-gun. I just believe all the guns will be taken, and those that refuse to give them up will end up Waco'ed. We currently have one gun, a nice S&W model 810 9mm. It is registered with my wife's CCW. I fully expect that at some point some very polite government weasel will show up to confiscate it under color of law.
    After thinking it through, I decided that our nice little pistol is NOT the hill I'm willing to die on. We currently have an 80 pound draw compound bow for me, and we are thinking about a crossbow for my wife. She's a strong girl, but there's no way she can pull even a 60 pounder.
    I also have a nice big survival knife with lashing holes so my hiker's staff, and it's leather wrist thong can be quickly converted into an effective spear. For hunting purposes, I have one of those extended slingshots with the wrist saddle. Squirrel, possum, and raccoon for dinner...yum yum :D
    Given that ammo will always be a limited resource even discounting government seizure, have any of you given serious thought to non-firearm options?

    I have several bows to include a youth model that goes up to 40lbs that my daughter uses for everything. We also bow fish. I have a few spears, frog gigs, pepper spray is also kept handy for disabling some critters so you can better brain them out when needed.
    Check these out

    We also have airguns, slingshots, black powder and the most dangerous weapon there is......

      My wife if I dont take the trash out or forget to put the toilet seat down or any number of other things that might light her fuse if she is just having a bad day...

      A recent neat little thing I have seen and it was being used effective (limited range) was the something dub the "Slingbow". A sling shot with thicker bands and modified to shot an arrow... It is must fast aiming (but not as accurate) as the typical bow but at the ranges you would use it, it is more than accurate enough.

          Not much thought besides snare wire... If we get to a point that no firearms are legal than all is lost anyways, game over. They won...

            I have to agree with you on the compound and X bow. I keep a 70# compound, and most women and kids can handle my 40# fishbow. I recently added a Ten Point recurve crossbow. I've heard the arguements about "when you run out of arrows". There is a reason why they call crossbow arrows BOLTS :)

              Living in the U.K I’m obviously very envious of guns laws in the states, although contrary to popular belief guns aren’t banned here, getting a licence can be troublesome, you need to provide satisfactory explanations for why you want each weapon and ultimately the police have almost total discretion. Unlike the U.S.A all weapons (including shotguns and muzzle loaders) must be registered and there is absolutely no legal way around that.

              Still as bad as things are, I personally don’t think there will ever be 'mass confiscations'.

              Over in there I don’t think you have anything to worry about, sure it’s not ‘the hill your willing to die on’ but from what I’ve seen there are plenty who would. Even if most are just chest beating, and really only 1% of Americans would, that’s still over 3 million people..... lets see them 'Waco' that.

              Still as with most things survival related its always worth thinking about;

              A decent pellet gun is pretty effective against most small game, plus the pellets weigh next to nothing, a thousand or so probably only add up to a couple of pounds.

                  Yeah, I guess you can just picture a 10" carriage bolt flying down the track on my Ten Point :) Seriously, many of the old bolts that I have seen in drawings or in museums look more like a dart or a hunk of iron than an arrow. I have made some from " stuff laying around the shop" that worhed ok. Hardwood such as maple or birch cut into 1/2" squares makes a decent shaft. A 16D duplex nail or 1/4" bolt inserted in a hole drilled in one end makes a decent small game tip too. I would hate like hell to get hit with one!
