  • New Hand Gun

I went to a gun show last weekend and purchased a new handgun. It's a Smith and Wesson .380 Bodyguard. While I love my Ruger SP 101 Revolver, it is so 'HEAVY' that carrying it in my purse is likely to give me rotator cuff damage.

Anyway, I love it so far. It's light weight, has this neat little built in laser and fits neatly in a medium size purse. The trigger pull is tight according to my friend, but after I shot her Sig Sauer, which has a light trigger pull, I'm glad the SW has a tighter one. If I ever shot someone, I want to be sure I actually 'WANT' to shoot them.

I went shooting with it yesterday, and having never shot a semi auto I left with some nasty cuts on my hand from not handling the slide correctly.

I've decided I need 'LESSONS' and have signed up for them beginning next Thursday. Hopefully, I'll become more proficient after taking the lessons.

Anyway, so far I just love the little bodyguard.

Congrats! I'm glad to hear you are gonna get training. Semi-Autos can damage you if you shoot them like a revolver and vise versa. Don't get your thumb behind that slide or it will bend it back to your wrist. We all get a slide bite on the web of the hand at one time or another. It's actually a mark I look at on folks hands when shaking it or talking to them to see if they are a shooter or a bull shooter.
Wish we were closer, it would be an honor to train with you. Anyway good luck, practice multiple hits with it and enjoy the comfort. Give us a review on it as you train.

I dated a girl that was shooting one of my Glocks. I kept fussing at her about how she held the gun. She suddenly got real quiet and I asked her what was wrong. She said nothing but I then noticed blood dripping on the ground. Her hands were behind her back. Two slide rail cuts. She learned a hard lesson.

Congratulations on your new tool. Training will help significantly with the BG380...but don't neglect training with the SP101 if you plan on keeping it as a carry weapon also.

BTW, my wife uses both of those same weapons on a regular basis and so far we have not had any issues with function or reliability out of either of them. Oh, make sure to try different ammos thru the .380 - it can make a big difference in accuracy!

I found out about the ammo. I originally purchased a box of 20 personal protection ammo for $29.95. Now that's expensive! So, to practice I went to Walmarts and bought 50 for $14.95. Well, when I looked closely at the box I discovered it was made in Russia and was terrible. 2 misfired. Thanks for telling me cheap ammo messes up the aim.

Where can you buy reasonably priced ammo for the 380?

We found that Winchester 85 gr, Silvertip HP was most accurate in our weapon. Pricewise, it isn't too bad....currently on sale at Cabella's (online only) for $22.99 for a box of 50 - regular $37.99 - and if you live close to a store it can be shipped to the store for free.

            Hope this helps! :)

I have good luck with Magtech hardball in my Kel-Tec P3AT for training ammo. Also Winchester white box runs pretty well.

hahaha yeah good luck. you might want to get into reloading. 380 acp is very miserly on its powder charge. a lee turret press setup isn't very expensive.

look at the misfires and jams as training in your mind and learn how to quickly clear them. we take empty cases and practice it at home so that if it happens during the moment it is just second nature. murphy always shows up for fights
