so any one have one of these, looks like the front sight is plastic w/ a rear peep.... I dont like the idea of a plastic front sight.

Had one about 10 years ago. Thought it sounded neat so I ordered one. The one I had, the barrel was a rifled peice of thin walled tubing with ouside being polymer/plastic giving it the dimensions/profile of a normal barrel. I tried hard to like it but never could warm up to it. It was the least accurate 22lr I've shot outside of a NAA mini revolver and it would misfeed at least once every twenty-five rounds or so. I may have just gotten a lemon though.

I bought a used AR7 years ago with a broken site. The metal is either aluminium or some type of pot metal. I was thinking about having one made for me out of steel it definitely seems like the weak point, the original mags are weak also. imo

Have an old school Charter Arms AR7, had a couple friends with similar.

Jammatic was the term we used for them. Trigger problems brought double and triple taps when they weren't made...

If you look at it close up -at least with the old ones- it lacked a feed ramp and the bullet tip didn't line up correctly without something like this.

I took a dremel and ground up a small feed ramp for one. It functioned much better after that.

Cool concept and people are drawn to the IDEA but realistically most of us would be better off with a Ruger MKII or 10/22

I have one. I have used it to take small game, squirrels, rabbits, grouse.... It is crude but works OK. It is good stored in a boat or kayak or in a backpack. I am thinking of converting a 1022 to a folding stock and composite barrell with a red dot sight. I cant see through the peep sight very well in low light. CC

the peep sight has two holes i put mine on the smaller one and it helped except for low light. Im thinking about removing the front plastic sight, drilling and tapping and installing a small stud. it wont be adjustable so i will have to set it up for a specific range but then again the original sights arent adjustable either. I didnt purchase mine for a daily shooter it usually stays on the shelf till i go backpacking and then it rarely comes out of the pack it is only for emergencies. the xd-45 is for everything else. i also thought about a 1022 but i believe the ar-7 would still lighter.

Many years ago, I had a couple of them. Was never impressed with them. I found a good target .22 handgun with a red dot sight worked better for a food gathering/camp gun.

I have one that I keep in my GHB for a backup. If i can't have access to anything else, that is when I will get it out and use it.

I've always liked the concept of having a rifle all packed away in it's stock. I figured it would be a handy thing to have for canoeing, or if you were a bush pilot, things like that were a wilderness survival situation may arise.

I didn't read this thread at first, I thought it was going to be someone extolling the virtues of the AR-7 and how it was the only gun you would need. Glad I was wrong.
