  • The Wonder Washer!

    Has anybody seen and/or used one of these? I was looking at metal vs plastic washboards and tubs on Amazon and ran across the Wonder Washer! Read a few reviews and it sounded ok.

    Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

    I'm also considering buying a heavy duty mop bucket with the wringer on it to squeeze the water out of the clothes that have just been.....Wonder Washed! Anybody else gone/going this route?

            Opinions vary. I have one and used it recently. Works real well though time consuming. I am concerned about the handle/connection holding up with regular usage though. With the weight of the wet clothes the handle seems to "bend" a bit as one cranks.

                That's one issue I wondered about goatlady. Wonder if the ole washboard would be safest. Less parts to break.

                  Not overly impressed with mine. Check out the PAW video on Laundry in the field to see one in use and other improvised options.

                      My opinion and experience is the same as Goatlady's. I definitely would not wash jeans or heavy clothese in it, however, for lighter loads I think it would be fine. My preferred method for washing clothes sans my washer and dryer is with large plastic buckets and plungers. What I find interesting is that you now can purchase emergency laundry kits that are large plastic buckets with plungers.

                        Who'd a thought? A plunger for washing clothes. Clever idea! I've got a mop bucket and squeejie in my Amazon cart. Guess I could pick up a plunger at Wallyweird.

                        Anxious to try out the new laundry detergent ingredients we're going to order for a homemade recipe. If it works it will save us big bucks compared to store bought detergents. Combination of Fel's Naptha, Arm and Hammer Washing Soda and Borax. Anybody tried it?

                          When my son went to scout camp every summer, they used the plunger - bucket method... They had their "washing machine kit"... A plunger, some soap, 5 gal bucket, and a lid with a hole drilled in the center. Put in the water, some soap, and the clothes... put the plunger in, snap on the lid with plunger handle sticking thru the lid... and start plunging away.

                            I've made and used the home made laundry detergent with those same ingredients. I didn't like the results I got with it. The dirtyier the laundry was, the less clean it came out. And none of the laundry smelled clean. I tried the detergent without diluting it as much as the recipe said but it didn't help. If you find a recipe that works better, please post it here.

                              I have been using this recipe for many years now and like it alot--it is so much cheaper than purchasing laundry soap at the big box store. Note, I do not just use the soap. I still use Oxyclean, bleach, Clorox Stain Fighter & Color Boost, and Shout stain remover as needed. With that said, I know there are lots of folks like Karen who have not had a good experience with it. Hopefully it works for you.
