Welcome to S & P we are glad you are here. Lots of good people and info here.

Do a quick search before asking your question, we have talked about a lot of things so it might be covered.

Include meta tags on threads you start so that they will be easier to search for.

Check out the blog articles there is some good info there.

Look on youtube for videos made by PAW Productions - delta69alpha and also Survival Report.

Lastly share your experience with the rest of us.

I guess in the end we are all the same, different circumstances and environments, but if the lights go out.... it is just as dark on my side as yours. Prepping is not popular over here, its like everybody lives as if nothing can go wrong, there will be a paycheck next month and bad things happen somewhere else. Preppers are crazy you know;)

I'm still trying to get my head around prepping. How to start, what to focus on and how to get my wife on board.
Pulled this from the other thread so as not to hijack it. You prep like eating a steak, one bite at a time. You try and do the whole thing you will choke.
Start small with the basics. Food, water, shelter, air, medical, protection. You live in a coastal city then lets take drinkable water. You either need a desalination unit or stored water. So start small, get bottles, jugs etc, figure out how you are going to boil/filter it etc.
You state you have people. That means you need protection. That can be in bugging out or defending so work on plans, written plans, then training, then weapons to defend with etc.
Contact with people means injuries so focus on first aid training, small kits geared towards this bought as you can afford to, look at the stuff on the sponser page at JRH Enterprises. There is a book on some of this at the bottom of the page called Contact.
It also means maybe finding other like minded people cause you cant do it all on your own. Recruit but slowly, wisly and keep OPSEC as best you can.
The wife, the hard part, maybe. Explain the reasons why you want to prep, for her protection, for emergencies (real not off the wall things), because this happened here or there and you as the leader of the family unit have a duty. They dont always agree, oh well, neither do i everytime she buys more shoes. I know what my duty is.
Start small, go for 3 days, then 3 wks, 3 mths and so on and be well rounded dont get overfocused on weapons or something else.
When your broke, you study and workout harder on fighting drills, do dry fire drills, take walks and mentally inventory natural or man made resources but during this journey and way of life called preparing remember to breathe and live because you can miss stuff if you dont.

Thank you very much for your reply Matt in Oklahoma. One of the most important things I think you mentioned above is writing your plans/goals down. We so easily get distracted with other things, having a list or action plan will help a lot.

But yes, one bite at a time as you say, I'll get to it!
