We milk our goats. Right now we are milking two Mini LaMancha goats and getting between 1/2 and 3/4 of a gallon a day. We are drowning in milk - the fridge is full and I am freezing it. I ordered some stuff to make cheese, so hopefully I will soon be using it to make cheese and some goat milk soap. Goats are generally divided into two types, meat and dairy. But, I suppose you can milk meat goats. I plan on milking some of my pygmies. My milk goats are very friendly - almost dog like.

Cool.... I had no idea you could get that much milk from a couple goats! Does it taste anything like cows milk? It sounds like it would be easier to care for goats than cows... (Size wise, anyway!)

We like it. My son is terribly particular about milk (chocolate milk is terrible!), but he actually prefers the goat milk. I think a lot of it has to do with how you handle the milk and if you have stinky bucks around.

We like the minis. We use a large dog crate for transporting them, no need for a trailer. One reason we chose the minis is because we could handle them without much special equipment. DH built a milk stand in just a couple hours with scrap lumber.

ETA: I have a guy who wants to buy some of our excess. He offered $1.50 per quart.

Many people get a gallon or more per day - depending on the type of goat.
