  • Holy Carp! Quads!

[IMG][/IMG]I went out to check on a pregnant goat and she had two new babies. I went back to the house to grab some towels - it is cold and snowing here - and bam, there were two more! It is a good think this is my last week of school! I am going to have bottle babies!

ETA: I guess I should figure out how to change the date on my camera. It is about 75 degrees colder than August!

Wow! Isn't that pretty rare? And even more rare that they were all born alove? I don't think my mom's goats have ever had quads.

I think it is fairly uncommon. But, it is only the second kidding we have had. We just got into goats this past May!

They were born this morning, actually in the last three hours. She was as big as a house! But, our first doe to kid was huge too, and she only had two, so I really wasn't expecting this!

Oh, and she is a pygmy, so they aren't quite as big as they look. They are about the size of my parent's yorkie, just leggier. lol

THAT EXPLAINS IT, I THOUGHT SHE WAS THE SIZE OF A NUBIAN. THAT WOULD MAKE THE BABIES HUGE. (LEGGIER, I LOVE IT)

THIS IS THE EASY WAY TO START A HERD. I REALLY WANT TO FENCE IN A COUPLE ACRES AND GET GOATS. THIS MIGHT BE THE YEAR.

We love our goats. We bought two pygmies in May and now we have....18 as of today. lol Not all of them are pygmies, we have some Mini LaMancha dairy goats and a Nigerian Dwarf.

                        Early Christmas presents!

Momma still looks dazed, I bet she is just happy to have that many of those little ones on the OUTSIDE of her belly now! Congratulations and good luck, you have your work cut out for you.

Update on my quads: DH has taken to calling them "Goldie and the Nuggets." lol Thus far, Goldie has done all the work. We haven't had to supplement at all! They are all doing great. Two boys and two girls, I guess with Goldie that makes a "full house." :D

Being a city boy, I have to ask.... In the over-all farm life scene, (Ok, that sounds weird, but it's 3am here..) how do goats fit in??? I've heard of goats milk, are there other uses for them? Are they pets?
