  • Militia Presence growing?

Has anyone noticed the recruiting and presence growing in your areas? I have noticed on mainstream media a push as of late for recruitment etc. My experience with militia is NIL, but from the research I have done hasnt made me want to run out and join up. So far I have found that the groups are one of two things; racist bigots, or armchair commandos from camp living room. While there are certainly groups that are not in those categories it just seems to be the norm. A guy that I shoot with that is outside my circle of prepping friends, keeps asking me to come and join his Militia. Militia to me screams, come look at me and find some infraction that I didnt know was an infraction and take my guns and lock me up. Am I the only one that thinks like that? I am 44 years old now, and while I cant recover like I did in my 20's, I am probably just as fit. but when I look thru the pictures of the so called leaders of these militia's, I see dudes that look like the got out of breathe putting on their gear. Picture one is of the "Leader" of the group that boast 1000 members in 100 counties. And if I sent this picture in and it is of someone you know, I apologize for mocking him and appreciate his patriotism and his need to do something, but I think the genie is out of the bottle on this one. Picture 2 is of the actual makeup of how the counties are organized. From my understanding from my shooting buddy, who is charge of one these regions, "we are just pissed with our government and we are gonna take our country back." On a side note they are also "gearing" up for Martial Law, and in case ISIS wants to become WASWAS. (I really like that little play on words). I guess with social media his plans are to "manage" his recruits and members, but in this day and age or an age to come where he will be looked at as a dissident, keeping his thoughts and maneuverings to himself.

So have you guys noticed an uptick in your AO's of militia rhetoric? If anyone here is in a militia, I would think that the OPORD would be for OPSEC. Kind of like Fight Club. 1st rule: Dont talk about fight club 2nd rule: Never talk about fight club. With that being said, there could be militia members that are in fact in here but cant/wont comment for OPSEC reasons, and if I offended I apologize. Just thought it was weird that in the last 3 months I have been approached by 3 different people, one I didnt know at all but was wearing a multicam hat, and asked about joining a militia.

They are at all the gun shows here now... booth set up and videos playing. Not for me, much on the same grounds of thinking as you. The gear/uniform they wear... all brand new never dirty, tatter, or worn. The video isn't worth the 30 seconds I gave it with "people" running a obstacle course, shooting prone, kneeling, standing, at 50 yds with rifle. The speil was "Obama...blah,blah, blah... Murika...blah, blah, blah..."

They have just recently, the past 3-4 years stepped it up at shows/gun range

      Steering clear

I can openly discuss militia since I'm a retired officer subject to recall and am constitutionally ineligible for the militia.

What I am eligible for is advising a constitutional militia, per the constitution if it ever becomes necessary.

My suggestion is steer clear of what you discussed above. Your vibes are likely correct.

Best suggestion is 4 or 5 of you being close and long time tight friends. This forms the basis of a 5-10 program.

      OK, what's a 5-10 program?

A 5-10 program is small group of up to 5 people who fit right.
If you gain another person, then split up and eventually build up to two 5 groups. (two very loose groups)
      Two 5 groups make a 10 group.

If enough 5-10 groups sorta know about each other, then you have a squad, then a platoon and maybe some day a company.

Nice part is 5 groups work together and would easily blend into a 10 group and 10 groups can be managed into larger groups as necessary. Flexibility is the key. (and low key)

Lots of folk might even put away a basic load for 5 people in addition to themselves. Doesn't have to be top of the line, just serviceable, pack, suspenders, canteen, ifak, pouches. Maybe 5 Mosins and 5 cans of ammo. (Could even be $100 .22lr's and 2 bricks)
Don't forget large tops and bottoms, underware, socks, tee shirts, selection of cheap surplus issue boots (currently $5 a pair)

If unprepped good friends show up bear naked, you can accommodate them and make another 5 group when necessary and if needed. If not, then it's excellent trade bait.

So, in a nutshell, your feeling about the folk you discussed is likely accurate and steering clear of them is the way to avoid trouble.

If anybody comes up and asks you to "join a militia", excuse yourself and leave.

      ps:
      Those "militias" likely aren't!

Around here , I have not seen any militia type actions. But as prc104 said that is the way it should happen, as in France ww2. Also the groups should not know all the other group members, so under enhanced interrogation they can not tell. If approached by a unknown to join a militia , they are most like to be a CI for FED,State. Here in Mi. we have the JTF and MSP. MSP had a RED squad that was sued years ago and ordered to get rid of intel on people. Don't bet on that!! they still collect intel on all sorts of regular people. Esp. 2 nd amendment and people who believe in the constitution. If you buck the program they will do what ever to get you or put you away. They also have their own slush fund made up of seized money , this normally run out of a personal ck book , no one aduits. So avoid militia groups they are cannon fodder.

All technically MILITIA, true. As are we all if able bodied and sound mind...

I have learned that America is ONE made from many, even those with differing beliefs, some even repugnant. But as a Militiaman, you are not "assigned," so choose your friends, but you are assigned based on your locality, and that may mean working with those you don't agree with... Enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine, kind of thing...

          Divided we fall...

And if it was dirty & tattered, would they be accused of being "posers?" Like Bear Grills photos with dirt and grime all over...

They are REPRESENTING, so why would they look like they just came off a week long LRRP? I would try to look my best personally... My cleanest BDU's etc...

Still trying to figure out if pink hair is a dude or a damsel...or a bit of both. I didn't see anything indicating a militia presence on either side, just a bunch of punks and an elderly man that was perturbed with some of them.

That is a good example of how NOT to behave. In public or private.

I see your point Rmpl... guess if I was making a video I would Like to look good to.

It Just gives me the willies... in every class I attend, the guys with all the shiny brand new gear that was just pulled out of the plastic and tags cut off end up being "That Guy". The never tested "said" gear before the class ends up not working/fitting/trying to figure it out and they hold up rest of class because of this first time use. This shy's me away from them.

I can also see looking their best and squared away at the shows... but why dose it always have to be all black... second pet peeve (not just the recruiters but attendees as well)why must they wear empty tac vests? To each their own I guess.

I had a long conversation with this guy that invited my facebook account (which was made using TOR, and thru a proxy puts my location in the Netherlands) to "Like" his militia groups page. When and if it comes time to round up dissidents, he is basically giving then Fed's his address so its easier for them. I am an IT security analyst for a small time alarm monitoring company near my hometown, but I have a solid understanding of what is possible and what is NOT possible in terms of IT security. I explained to him that all he will achieve is flag everyone else w/him for round up should that ever happen. There is a logfile on every webserver that has the IP address of the person that posts on it, and that information is part of what gets subpoena'd when illicit activity has taken place. If the Admin on this site wanted to scan back my IP he would know exactly where I was located. There are reverse lookup tools on the internet where you can punch in the IP address and it will give your location away.

Anyway, I explained what PRC-104 spoke about with the 5-10 program, and told him that all activity online, whether it is monitored or not is still being logged. I told him that he was making himself a target and he should go about his task differently. FTF transactions would be my only manner of comms. Could you trust the guy online that was 3 counties away to not be a confidential informant? Absolutely not. Could you trust the guy you see every day and goto church with and your kids play ball together? Not really, but you could definitely see if his actions spoke volumes. He insisted that since he is in "charge" of so many counties for recruiting he couldnt do it any other way.

So I told him how to create a Virtual Machine on his computer, its free. https://www.virtualbox.org/
I told him how to encrypt his HD's, spook his MAC Addresses, use proxies, but at the end of the day all of that information was available online for free. And if we know about it then the gov will too. So aside from Militia warnings consider this a Public Service Announcement for your online travels as well.

                      Gut reaction

If this guy came out and said "He insisted that since he is in "charge" of so many counties for recruiting" then I'd immediately drop all contact with him.

The technique is turn and run away. ...... fast LOL

There are state defense forces around that are state sponsored legit and I could see them doing this.

                      Otherwise, ...... troll.

What was that Carl Klang song? Oh, yah, "Don't cast your pearls before swine".

I understand real well how you wanted to give him advice and that's natural but DON'T!

A man who speaks my language...

All the above is a recipe for a secure internet connection with minimal trace back...

Any new info on the best email providers for cut out email accounts?

That said, I do not "hide" very often digitally, as it is a PITA and one always has to be aware of online activity that will blow away your anonymous persona... All it takes is ONE screw up, one accidental log in with wrong username to create a connection between the two, then it is start all over again...

But there are times when one wants to be as ninja as possible...

My thoughts are that I am on a "List" somewhere anyway. Have purchased a lot of food from LDS, have a lot of legally obtained firearms, am a Christian, former military, etc etc. If "they" have a label for it, then I probably own it. So I, and people similar to me, are probably on a list. With that being said, I dont very often keep my internet stuff locked down. When I created an account on Facebook, it was because there were a lot Gun trading/selling pages that I wanted to explore.

As for Email it is hard to say. Supposedly there are a few that promise to never sell out, but given enough pressure I am sure they would break. Hushmail is probably the better ones out there, but again I have seen some people bashing them. But there will always be people bashing someone. I have attended a few "Ethical Hacker" conferences and webinars and those showed me real fast how much I DONT know. Blackhats/Whitehats are usually the same people but have a day job where they are legit and practice being bad so they know how to protect from people like themselves. Same way I think there is a little dark room at Symantec that writes viruses and then creates the signature to promote job security. Another pretty cool option is adding some honeypots onto your network at home. Most ISP's give out a router with multiple network ports. I plug in Raspberry PI devices with different exploits on them. Dionaea Kippo Snort Conpot are a few that are pretty cool. They can send alerts via iMessage, sms, or email if you have been compromised or if someone is just doing a random port scan on IP's. I think those more that any other types of malware detection systems give me piece of mind. Raspberry PI are cheap microcomputers running a mini linux OS on them. Pretty slick. Last bit of PSA advice is to encrypt your hard drive (veracrypt over truecrypt on PC's though) Cryptolocker is a nasty little exploit that will encrypt all of the files on your PC and MAC and any shared drives, USB drives. Then it will send you a message that you have 3 days to pay them for the encryption key or your data is gone. But if your data is already encrypted you are protected. PSA over.

PRC, dude was a good guy, but being made "in Charge" has given to poor guy the big head. He exemplifies the couch warrior from camp living room. I just wished him luck with his recruiting endeavors and told him he was a good Patriot

"With real bits of Panther in there, that's how you know it's good. 60% of the time, it works all the time!" LOL

Who are they going to get being out there like that? I'm a marketing guy, heck even got a crappy piece of paper saying I have a degree in it LOL, but you don't always "market" directly like that.

You have to ask yourself who would they "net" (recruit, meet, etc) from that approach-

                            1. The person who is not who they say they are, perhaps checking out things for some gubmint agency.
                            2. The damn near absolute clueless types.

Honestly, you want to avoid both types.

"But #2 is new and just needs a good education and..."

#2 is the one that #1 typically feeds off of WHEN they can't truly find something bad going on. Remember cost justification? That means as an employee of some large organization that has a "budget" you have to prove that time spent on a project went somewhere. So WHEN they have infiltrated some m word group and simply found a bunch of out of shape burger grubbers sitting around a Shoney's beo-tching about the Fed, NWO, etc. and realize "damn not only is no one doing anything illegal, no one is doing anything PERIOD..."

Then you see what you have seen numerous times in the past- most recently with the wannabe jihadis. And that is, suddenly a #2 (newbee with a lot of heart but little sense with head WAAAY up his arse), that "the man from Uncle" fashions #2 to actually BE a bad guy.

I can remember two news articles in the last couple years wherein a young wanna be jihadi was "given explosives" by an agent that he didn't know where fake and then took him to a synagogue and then after he set the charges, they busted him. Not excusing the jihadi but the "man from Uncle" was truly the one that made the situation happen. I mean you can't go to Walmart and buy RDX after all...

If your a #2, you have to pull your head out of your ARSE about these things, PRONTO. Their is no going back, no "I didn't know". This is a serious thing, it's not internet fantasy survival fiction story playtime.

So huge big rules to live by-

                            1. Never EVER EVER EVER allow ANY one to mess with anything stupid anywhere near you and yours- the two big ones being specifically no homebrew stuff of the Class three type nature and definitely no expl-sives . I run from anyone even stupid enough to TALK about these things among others, sorry it's a flipping no brainer people, you just gotta STFU about this kind of thing or you'll be forever placed in the "possible F-d" category, and their is no going back from that.

On a personal note- I'm VERY VERY analytical about this. One guy I went shooting with one time had a Yugo AK. The selector on it moved to THREE positions as some of the Yugo's do. I was not aware of that and the only three position AK I had seen were legit class 3 specimens. I was reluctant to fire it once I realized it and was this close to telling the person to F off and stay the F away from me. Harsh? Wake up! YOU CANNOT TAKE ANY CHANCES ON THESE THINGS! It ended up being a totally legit gun but the guy was clueless about the third position and so was I and again, I don't take chances.

Don't even TALK about such things, ANYONE that does is suspect. Your not "impressing" anyone, quite the flipping contrary, you are outing yourself. Don't kid around about "making your gun faster" or any kind of related crap. Don't even bother with the "when the time comes I'm a gonna....." DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT, DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT.

Refer them to Doctor Shutty once, after that avoid them like the plague.

Next big mark of Cain- Don't start bitc...talking/complaining about the poo poo's (LEO). OK so you dress like a thug, you have a bunch of neck tats, maybe you have "Killer" tatoo'ed on your forehead, tear drops tatoo'ed on your face whatever so be it, if you like it then whatever. But don't sit and cry about how the cops are always checking you out or messing with you. That's because of choices YOU made and the way you act largely. Filed under "not my F'in problem."

The overt racist and extremist element on any sides of the spectrum should be avoided. Much like with what we do, the serious people like this won't be out protesting on the street, they will be the ones in the shadows that actually make things happen.

Basically, abstain from even the APPEARANCE of evil, and you'll do fine.
