LP/OP "we want to build it high up so no one can see us" a whole 6ft up huh??? What did I miss?
The gate is too light to be effective once it falls. It can be simply lifted up. It needs a locking system or something like derailment. I'm not a huge man but I can get several hundred pounds up easily and hoping that you have someone available to deal with the trapped subject it needs to be able to hold them a while. Perhaps you don't want to kill them so you can get info so it needs to hold.
Their are a lot of tensions between everyone. A leader sometimes needs to create wins on order to bring people to a level. I had to do this many times in the military to build my team. Instead of Krav Maga fighting each other put them in a position where they must rely on each other. I would have brought in a large man to whip one of the girls and made the other save her then thew another man on her where the boys woulda had to jump in and made them rely on one another. They need a win for morale and team building. They do not trust each other and of course that must be learned over time and work.Knowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

YEP ! Gotta go with Benn on this one guys. Hit it spot on I'd say.Originally posted by Benn Gleck View PostI'm convinced this show is out the to make preppers look stupid.
We used to call ourselves "survivalists" back in the eighties until mainsteam media painted anyone associated with that name a nutjob.
They are doing the same with "prepper".
I'm going to start calling myself a normalist, because its normal to want to be ready for anything life throws at you. ;)
One thing I did enjoy about this show, was the video that Engineer775 did on YouTube about the water supply for them. A good friend of mine sent me the link, even though I had seen it a short time before he sent it. It's still a pretty cool video, and it shows the fact that they are looking to cover their bases on the basics at least.
The link is here for those of you that have not seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bOkImEzBdo
Like I said in my first post, I'm just looking for the good stuff hidden in the mindless crap for the masses. It's in there if you just look, and it makes all the rest worth it to me at least."It has been said that preparedness and being prepared promotes fear. This isn't true.......being UNPREPARED is what promotes fear"

Seriously running around the woods with flashlights on and blasting airhorns!?! LAMO Well you just planted 1/2 your people there great leader.
Sweet they got the Red Dawn briefing sand pit!
Level 3 is called the FPL The Final Protective line where everything goes
The tripwire device is neat. I dunno about it in deer, bear and hog country though cause the false alarms will cause complacency. The shotgun mousetrap device would be improved with those specialty rounds that shoot the aerial bang or flares over the standard shell.
I still don't think alcohol is a good barter item cause drunks get bad ideas.
Ok burying a cache you have to have an exact location not just somewhere on this hill. I have made this mistake before and almost didn't find it.
Shooting from an elevated position, like on top of the castle, you need to aim a little low
Lemme find out Wiseowl is playing the Doomsday castle game on his phone when he thinks no one is looking LMAOKnowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

A zipline is risky as it exposes you to fire without a real capability of defense. It also sends you to a direct area with no change of course optional. Overwatch would be critical
Hopefully they really didn't show where the cache was buried.
When the father made a mistake and didn't want to admit it in front of his children well thats a shame because that is the time to teach that everyone makes mistakes and that you just work thru the issue and recover and use it as a learning experience. There is nothing shameful about it as that is real life. Shameful is pretense and ego
I'm wondering about that roof and drainage but since a contractor was there doing it maybe it will be ok.
The sibling hateraide drama is getting so staged it is almost predictable. They should just stick to the real because that is interesting enoughKnowledge is Power, Practiced Knowledge is Strength, Tested Knowledge is Confidence

Matt, I am pretty sure they gave the direction (South) and the number of paces (33), from the tree with the zip line landing platform. I have it DVR'd so I will go back and watch it again to verify.Originally posted by Matt In Oklahoma View PostHopefully they really didn't show where the cache was buried."One cannot but ponder the question: what if the Arabs had been Christians? To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly what he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. Here, I think, is a text for some eloquent sermon on the virtues of Christianity." - General George S. Patton, diary, June 9, 1943.

so strictly from a "aggressor" view point. It sure would be tempting to take that power line easement running east / west then cutoff just southwest of the castle and follow the ridge covered in heavy timber to provide cover all the way up to the back of the place. I would guess that his spring is in the ravine just north of this area. There is also what appears to be a high point along one of the roads in. It appears to be a good amount higher than his castle. Distance measured on google earth was 230 yds from the hill to the castle. Now I aint the best shot in the world but im pretty sure I could provide supporting fire and over watch to a few guys approaching his "stronghold" from the southwest. Course satelite imagery doesn't tell nearly enough but that's just my uneducated take on how to overcome 16th century technology. I guess my point is, as all of you have clearly stated already. We don't use castle defense anymore and there are some very good reasons why. I know it gets done maybe even over done on the forums but this may be a good opportunity to wargame "assault the retreat" using what intel we have on the group inside and knowing something about the lay of the land. Would be interesting to see what we all come up with..
