This show is painful for me, as practical prepper, to watch. Beyond the big windows, which I think one of his 3 former wives made him put them in for "lighting and scenic views",
why in the heck would you waste your time building a catapult?!?!?!? The drawbridge was constructed half-assed. They can barely open and close it without it buckling. I am surprised it did not fall on his son when he tried to ram it with a riding lawn mower. To top it off, the guy wants to build a moat on ground he doesn't have because the castle sits on top of a hill. There is no room for a moat.
I look at all of the money and effort this guy has wasted and I shake my head. He could have built something less dramatic and more useful than what he has now.
"One cannot but ponder the question: what if the Arabs had been Christians? To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly what he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. Here, I think, is a text for some eloquent sermon on the virtues of Christianity." - General George S. Patton, diary, June 9, 1943.
Tackleberry, that photo says it all. The windows are so big you would be hard pressed to take cover behind the tiny kneewalls below them. It's not just the size of the windos in the wall, it's the lack of wall around the windows!
And you are right about that drawbridge. A few questions, like "why?" How about a couple of just-as heavy in-swinging doors on imbedded posts. Maybe you could actually keep them from buckling, and close them without a five-minute workout on the come-along.
I'm convinced this show is out the to make preppers look stupid.
We used to call ourselves "survivalists" back in the eighties until mainsteam media painted anyone associated with that name a nutjob.
They are doing the same with "prepper".
I'm going to start calling myself a normalist, because its normal to want to be ready for anything life throws at you. ;)
least the girls arent 250lbs.

The only reasons it has lasted this long.
Drawbridge could have used a couple of cross braces, in fact you see them on large wooden barn doors to prevent the droop issue we all saw.
He would have been better off building an ICF house.
seriously though, did we expect anything different?? The only things I saw that made any sense was when Scott schooled them on building the water system and when the girls tried to construct a zip line to take supplies down the hill. Constructing a working cable system to bring wood up the hill and a sled system to haul supplies down it should have been on the priority list. He is gonna need wood to heat that pig of a castle what is he gonna do have his idiot son carry up the hill one arm load at a time. Work smart not hard, calories are a commodity why spend them needlessly??
I'd need the zip line cause if Grand ever builds me a catapult there won't be nothing left on the top of the hill cause i will have launched it all LOL
Black rifles do not make me have bad thoughts. Catapults, wood chippers and large heavy knives do :)

All Talk, excellent suggestion on the doors. That would allow them to either use a large beam to bar the doors from the inside or design a multi-barred locking mechanism kinda like a vault door.

I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't use my name and wood chippers in the same conversation...bad subject and all.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.
