It never ceases to amaze me the lack of ethics/common sense/respect etc that is found on the net sometimes. Round these parts people would say something to the effect of "that person has no social skills."
First their is the guy that registers on a forum. The registration agreement that he reads and agrees to makes it abundantly clear that their you cannot do business either openly on privately on the board. The forum rules read the same way and the "read this before posting" thread re-iterates it for the third time. But he joins and a grand total of 8 minutes after registering puts up a "come to my business site and buy my stuff" post. Further when that's deleted and he's questioned about the obvious break of the rules, he blames it on the fact that the "PM's are disabled." Well that's one reason why they are disabled.. But email sure isn't, and the admin and the mods all have email addresses. Also, he could have posted "hey can someone email me about the possibility of advertising items from my site here" and he would have received a quick reply. Despite this and after being given a second chance, the guy still wants to act like a jerk. Gone. "Ba bye", congrats your the first person actually banned from this site. Getting two months into it without having to ban anyone, that's pretty good from what I hear.
Then sometimes your reading on places around the net and you read something interesting. Wow, this sure looks familiar. Hey this guy uses strange phrases like I do... Wait a second! This is MY work. OK, no problem, I'm sure he probably put a link at the bottom of his post to my original article he stole this from. Nope, didn't happen. But he did use my words verbatim and never said even something to the effect of "I got this off the net." Nope everything was written like it was his and other posters cheered him for it and even said they missed him posting stuff like this on another forum!!!
I've PM'ed the guy, told him about the problem and said "FWIW, I've never had a problem with people re-posting stuff I've written (I give it away for a reason) but at least have the courtesy to say you didn't write it." We will see what he replies..
What's the deal with people any more? I just don't get it?
Does no one understand ethics any more? Common courtesy? Respect?
Is it o.k. to go into another man's house and crap all over the floor? I don't think so. I'm always floored on some of these forums wherein a company sponsors the whole site- pays all the bills of the site. Then someone comes in with a post saying "that is $3. cheaper over at xyz.com." What the heck is with that? Is xyz.com supporting the community? Nope. Some folks hold things like loyalty and respect above a couple dollars. Would you go to another man's house and say "You know Mr. Jones down the street, he has a better looking wife than you do." No you wouldn't do that cause that would be stupid, crass and rude as hell. And it would probably get you tossed out of that house post haste.... ;)
I've spent years on forums, racked up thousands of real information/helping type posts and never once did I go in on Day 1 and say "come to my site, buy my stuff." Why? Cause that would be rude as hell and make me look like a total jerk and with 99% of the sites out there, also get me tossed. On forums wherein a company sponsored the site (in other words paid for the site, like HERE), I did the right thing and recommended that company. Why? Because #1 that's respectful and the right thing to do. #2 that helps keep the site running.
Also, you'll find in life that the more give respect, the more you tend to GET RESPECT. The more you act like a retard, the more you'll be treated like a retard. It's kinda like that "do unto others" thing I read somewhere :D
