  • Outdoors Survival Situations

Most outdoor survival situations are created by a series of things classified as failures. When we look back at them we can see where things went wrong and what we need to do to avoid them to stay safe

A California man told authorities he survived eight days in the wooded area near Lake County, which is north of Santa Rosa, by eating pine nuts, Fox40.com reported.

series of things going wrong leading up to this:
#1 someone should know your whereabouts, when, where, what time etc.
#2 If your on a road and you wish to find a larger road don't leave the road, roads lead to other road also people looking for you will start on the roads. Isn't this right 1st responders and SRTs? We drive around looking for a start point or signs long before we start bush poking.
#3 The GMHB woulda been real nice for a feller to have, shoot even some snacks and a bottle of water, anything. A rental car IMO is all the more reason to have stuff with you because you don't know the vehicles capabilities, mechanical issues or history so it's a gamble.

    anything else I'm missing?

On # 2 when we get someone lost up here the first thing we look for is the car. The car is much bigger than a person (duh) but there are lots of folks who walk away.
I think you should always have a 'flight plan' in place with someone reliable. One case we had a 13 y/o told her 8 y/o sister where she was going. The 8 y/o didn't tell anyone then was afraid that they would both get in trouble when the older girl didn't return to the campsite.

Another part of the problem is that most Folks don't think that bad things can happen to them so they don't plan for the unexpected.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?
