I've found being civil or even pleasant when dealing with anyone makes things go better for you. Of course some folks get even more upset when you talk in a neutral pleasant manner LOL.

Yup, had good and bad experiences with law enforcement. More so when I was younger then I have now.
I live in a small town, the City PD is two blocks away and the Tribal PD is five. 'security' at work has four PD reserve officers that I work with. I am on first name terms with over half the Tribal PD....yeah, I can't 'swing a dead cat' without running into a LEO :) I'm not a thug or act like one, they all know I have a CCW and I get NO reaction if I open carry. I'll always get a nod or wave when driving/walking by and I'm sure to return the gesture.

Having said all that, there's always that one in every bunch. The City PD and the Tribe each have one officer that are just not nice to deal with and walk around like their briches have been starched too much.

This is an excellent subject. I like to give a little back ground on my past with law enforcement and make a comment. I grew up with 3 uncles who where Police Chiefs of my small towns that I grew up. I have lots of family that are Leo and military. I love My Leo’s and Military folks very much and give a big thank you for all you wonderful men and women do. You are the cream of the crop.

I would also like to thank another class of people that do not get a thank you, and that is the middle class. You are the class of people that most of these fine people come from, including firefighters, and other gov’t positions. We are also the people that benefit the most from our gov’t employees. As well as they by paying for them to hold these jobs that help us. The middle class also is the engine of our country. Give people the opportunity to start business and making individual business owners, and big corps money also. These founding fathers got it right in making a system that makes even the middle class the greatest in the world. Something that is not done thru communism or socialism. This middle class is also the most run over class in our county, and I hope people can understand why the middle class is tired of being treated as such. Again thank you to all middle class that puts up with this and who still soldier on we are Great Americans and I believe fantastic people.

Now I also believe are local Leo/Sheriff are and will be the last line of defense against a growing and in my opinion as a constitutionalists, useless ever oppressive gov’t. Our Sheriff will be the one to (I hope) to tell the Feds to put it where the sun don’t shine if it is unconstitutional laws. I believe that the balance of power needs to be flipped where local has most, state after, and the Feds the least. It being my reasoning that I can have much more influence on my local Gov’t then my Federal one.

Now to the Leo issue. I now am realizing that to be a good Father, Husband, Friend, and Employee I need to take on this phrase. What can I do to make things better? Not what that person can do, not why is it that person’s fault, but what can I do to make things better. See to be a leader first starts with learning to be a servant to be humble to not put one self above another. Not me saying this it is leaders that say this. Look at everyone from Jesus to George Washington, lots of these great leaders where first and foremost humble servant’s. We all need to do this too. I have two examples of incidents of this in my experience with law enforcement that I hope will illustrate my point. (Sorry so long)

1st experience is that we had a 7 to 8 foot gator on this busy but still country road. It blocking one side of the road with cars as well as dump trucks flying past it. I show up and by then some people milling around on the side of the road. Someone called the local Sheriff’s office and a young officer shows up around the time I do. He slows down traffic and does not have a clue what to do. I find an old sign post on the side of the road and go over and move the alligator out of the way. The Sherriff is grateful and in the process we are joking around and having a good conversation, remember we have a crowd of people watching this. His supervisor shows up, and his attitude is not the same. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or what but then the young officer takes on this attitude too. The young officer went from talking to me, to know turning his back on me, and acting like I don’t exist. I get the drift and say."good bye have a nice day". and the senior officer turns and says, “You still here well you need to go”. Remember people still watching this. I go walking back to my vehicle and some people saying, “What is with the attitude”? I say, “they probably writing up a report and I was blabbing at them too much”. All is good and I am glad they were here so we did not have an accident. My point is Leo’s please remember like it or not you are in a leader ship role and people are watching. You need to make sure you present yourself and your fellow officer’s with the right attitude. Even pulling over the combative driver, you show a little grace, maybe even changing said drivers attitude and some minds. As well as us drivers showing a little grace back to Leo. Leo’s it is a big job but you can do it for you are good people. To serve and protect to be teacher to ignorance as something we all should do.

Look back in you school days, who did you learn the most from? The teacher that new everything but was the self-righteous I am better then though attitude. How about the humble, good attitude teacher’s. Did we not learn better from these people.

2nd story is young lady Sheriff pulls me over expired registration tag. Well in running my plate notices that someone with the same name has written bad checks about 200 miles south. Well the young lady is nervous and over the loud speaker in her car tells me to get out of the truck, has her hand on her gun and is on high alert. She is very aggressive and She frisk me cuffs me and puts me in the back of the car. She tells me the guy writing the bad checks is 5” ft 7. I was that height in eighth grade. He is also 155 pounds; man I wish I was that. Well supervisor shows up and she believes I should go to jail, and wait for county with warrant to open up Monday morning to see if it is me. Well I am not too happy at this time and say so. Supervisor says, “no we know where he lives let’s let him go”. While she is taking off the handcuffs she says, “Sorry I think I was overly aggressive towards you I am only 3 weeks out on patrol”. I look her in the eye and say,” thank you for putting yourself on the front line, I am sorry I got upset with you to. I did not want to spend a weekend in jail, or even ten minutes. Saw her later at the gas station and when she looks at me I say,” oh know is be the Po Po”, and turn around and put my hands on the front of my hood. She starts laughing and comes over talking to me like we were old friends. You know what people are watching this. Some even had a little smile on their face. I have a new friend to.

These ramblings are not to say anything bad towards any police at all, it is just to hopefully point out that we all need to do our parts and to realize we can catch more flies with honey then lemons. That goes for everyone. I just will not start talking about the federal gov’t, cuz that is the one I have a hard time on giving grace too. They literally are burning my bottom dollar. :mad:

Thank You to all you freedom loving Americans, you are the reason that America is what it is. Like others said we need to come together and flip the balance of power. It should start with us and flow to Local, State and then Federal. We being on the top. :cool:

Im having a little attitude about the local LEO at this moment . I live in a nice part of town and off a main road . Well the local state boy ( im being literal , maybe 22-24 yrs old ) always like to set up at a 4 way stop about 400 yards from my house to catch people doing something I guess . He sees my wife pull out of the house , sees that her tags are expired by 2 days and proceeeds to write her a ticket , while condescendingly saying I could impound your vehicle , but since you are right there , ill let you go back to your house . She hops into my truck , runs up , gets her new stickers , puts them on . The next day he pulls her over again to check it is done . No problem with that , but his whole nasty attitude like he is a god and super smug about it , rankles my wife and myself .

That was about 3 months ago . This week I decide as a little present to myself to buy a new Dodge SRT8 Challenger . I drive off the lot to my friends shop and have it tinted ( to an illegal % ) . I understand the risks I run in my socialist state and Im willing to run them . So my wife ( she has the bad luck it seems ) runs to the store and takes my new toy and bam gets pulled over for no front tag , illegal tint . Same guy , he is being a total SHi5959head . My wife texts me , we live 1 min away , bam Im there . I pull up on other side , get out calmly and ask whats the problem , its my car . He then with a total smugness starts to talk smack about impounding my car . I say go for it , call your supervisor , Ill call my lawyer . I explain that having no front tag , isnt an impoundable offense , that it is a safety violation , please write me one , so I can pay my 80$ and call it a day . If my windows are too dark , show me the meter that measures them , because your obviously not a certified person who can legally offer me the % without legal verification without the right tools .

I ask him to please write my ticket , and oh yeah my truck probably has illegal tint also , save yourself a trip and make your quota , because now that you know my vehicles , if any of them are pulled over by you , Ill be contacting my lawyer to file papers about harrassament and please stop stalking my house before I take out a restraint order for you . He wouldnt write me a ticket , wouldnt look me in the eye , he was a nasty SOB to my wife , then smug to me , till he realized I wasnt scared of him . I dropped a few of the names of my LEO friends who actually have some power in out area , I called the local barracks and reported the incident , I contacted my lawyer to report the incident .

I could have handled it better I know , but to have some smug little punk pick on my wife and try to intimidate her will get you hurt . BADGE or no badge . I understand they are under a lot of stress , but you dont take it out on middle aged woman , who is breaking a minor and I stress minor safety order , to make yourself feel better . This is the kind of LEO that scares me , they are the types that probably got beat up in school , never got laid , now its payback and I have a badge , a gun and Im not afraid any more .

I have a large amount of LEO friends and I respect most of them , but from hanging with them , I have realized most LEO are drawing a paycheck , doing their 9-5 , getting their 20 years in , retire , get another 20 in somewhere else retire at 60 with a nice pension from both . They could care less what happens as long as they get paid each week , get their time off . They wont come fight for whats right , they will go home and to work when SHTF and if its too nasty , they will stay home .

This is common sense stuff unless you are 16 and never dealt with people. You have a negative contact with your LEO it's not their fault it's yours stop what you are doing and start meeting them elsewhere. Weird how everyone on here claims self reliance and hates the man but then is mad cause they dont think the po-po is gonna stay when SHTF. So you wanna shoot huh? Weird
and all the deleted stuff I read it and this is nothing more than feeble attempts to drive that wedge, quit it, move on and post real stuff, preparedness has nothing to do with this, people are people, dont make enemies where there were none
BTW i'm right here, met many of you, willing to meet the rest so you can judge for yourself even though i'm no longer a cop. Actually i'm enjoying a different forum where they dont bash each other, you know why? Cause they train together and that might go real bad. Guess thats not an issue here huh!?!
