I don't know why anyone would care :) J/K but I've received a lot of emails lately with the question(s) of what do you think about the current mess, what are you doing in regards to it. That sort of thing.
In an effort to type it once and be done, here goes.
Understand these are just my opinions, take them for what they will.
On the weapons issue-
*I think this current regime and leader are getting really used to getting what they want. Much more so than the Klintons in the 1990's with the first go around on the gun ban merry go round. Also, consider that was almost 20 years ago now. A LOT has changed in our country since then, little for the better.
*Whether it really is or really isn't, the media has such a strange hold on the country they will act as if public opinion is completely for a new gun ban. In the end, tyrannical gubmints could give a rip less about public opinion but in the short term, they will continue to play the game like they really care.
*Their may even be another episode in the W.O.P.K. show (Whacked Out Prozac Killers) before the "bill" is ready and voted on. However watch the Diane CrackFiendStein video at the end of this thread, she claims to ALREADY HAVE ONE READY.
*I heard yesterday from a customer who owns a large shooting supply company up north. His business is booming also as ANYTHING gun related is. However he seems to think that the NRA has this sewn up, that quote they don't have enough votes, dem-a gog or Republirat unquote. I REMEMBER HEARING TIME AND TIME AGAIN IN THE 90'S how "they don't have the votes", "the NRA will stop them" etc. we let our guard down and got the Crime bill and AWB....... BOTTOM LINE- do NOT fall into inaction based on pipe dreams. Hedge your bets and get what you need sewn up NOW.
*Are you just giving this lip service Robert? Nope.
*Now let's be clear on something- is this chicken little stuff? Nope baby it's COLMOLLIIN and gun bans, talk of gun bans and yo yo price flucuations have been a part of our continuation of life more or less like it is now for the last 20 years. Why did I buy a few things lately? Because I didn't want to PAY MORE for them later. Already ammo went up almost $70. a case since I last bought- since that is something we use regularly, crazy concept I know- USING ammo you have in storage for practice, to better your skills etc. :) So that is $70. in MY POCKET now that would not have been in my pocket had I hemmed and hawed around. Some other items I bought showed out of stock immediately after purchasing them, then when more stock came in, the same items were $150. more. THIS is why you don't hesitate during times like this. You are not going to get any "deals" on ammo, guns, magazines, and related stuff right now, THAT SHIP HAS SAILED. So trying to be a "joo" is going to leave you EMPTY HANDED. The time for being a cheapskate and 'running hard deals' IS NOW GONE. THIS is why you don't wait around. You lost most if not all of your room for negotiation in these products for the time being. Get over it, you have to pay more now. Get it while you still can and learn the lesson. Slow and steady DOES win the race, but the key to that is the word STEADY, in other words, CONSISTENT. A herky jerky approach to preparedness WILL cost you more in the long run. BTDT, have seen so many people try to prepare that way. Normally the biggest cheapskates when prices are good, are the ones that end up HAVING to pony up 3X normal prices for things they wait around on.
*Tacking on to the above, here is an important note- the time for "research" is over, the time for ACTION is now. I'm not saying go crazy, but the analytical "I have to research this for three years and read every "review" of this before I act" people are going to BE LEFT IN THE DUST by people that ACT.
*In short, I'm not counting on the vote not going through, I'm not counting on the NRA going to bat for us, or the Kalashnikov fairy to somehow come and rescue us from this. If it doesn't happen, well it doesn't happen. But if it does, I will have what I need for years of training and practice, I won't have to CHEAT MYSELF by not having ammo to train with.
Fiscal cliff deal-
*Will this be averted? Yeah I think it will- to a degree. I expect we will lose a lot of tax deductions for small business, I expect some of the earned income credit and various deductions that help a lot of individuals will be slashed. In negotiation their is an unspoken axiom that most negotiations finish right at the DEADLINE (if their is one). I expect a "deal" whether good or bad will happen at the 11th hour if it does happen.
*Could this be used for a power grab? Yes I believe it could. The potential scenario involves a "deadlock." It's like the old Scooby Doo shows- "I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for these meddling kids." Only it will be "we could have averted this if it wasn't for these meddling republicans." Slowly but surely Zero is consolidating power. To not see that is not to look. He's getting too used to getting his way. No I don't think he will reveal himself as Darth Sidious nor proclaim that "I AM the Senate" LOL, but he's consolidating power slowly but surely. If not for him, for the office of president.
*What am I doing regards to this? Their is a business deduction called Section 187 expense. This allows small business owners to take a deduction for smaller plant and equipment items (computers, laptops, office equipment, power tools, etc.) all in the same year it is purchased- versus depreciating the item over a 7 or 10 year schedule. I'm using that because I don't know if it will be there next year. It's a legitimate legal expense also.
*I don't expect banks to close in January or anything like that, however I'm looking towards a slight shakeup in the markets if we go over the "cliff" for even a short period of time. I intend to buy back into the market if their is a significant drop (say down to 11,000) . This is long term retirement funds, not anything we need for anything in the next few years. Search COLMOLLIIN on the site here if you don't understand WHY you should stay in the market long term.
*Further to the above, we are keeping some extra cash around. I don't think you should "cash out of dollars" and run scared, but you should protect yourself.
*Further further to the above, I'll make some small purchases of PM's because I expect silver and gold to go up should the "cliff" not be averted. Yes, food, water, shelter is good to go. Other than adding some new beehives and new goats this year to supplement those already on the homestead.
In short, I don't expect TS to HTF in January. I am however concerned about how far the dems will go with the gun bans and how people will react to that.
