The idea is that they are BTB's or specific coded messages for specific crews.
OR
They could also be being used for psy-ops purposes :) That company brought off the lines to reinforce "Humboldt" because of the "increased chatter" between resistance groups in that area usually precedes a "big event", is the company of troops sitting around doing jack while the line at the front is being exploited.
Remember, someone is always listening, always watching and you want them wasting their time, energy and effort on as many false trails as possible. Think: Patton's fake "army" that was going to lead the D-Day invasion and the amount of BS that they put into that in order to tie down a bunch of German forces.
Make sense?

i know they played keep a light on by CCR and i think green river or one other the 1st time the got the radio working..but they had 2-3 code phrases before they slipped in the old ones...this was the second radio scene.
funny bunch of the stuff in the film goes hand in hand with the Xbox game homefront ( the stadium jails, school bus's check point set ups etc etc).then again the same people helped out with the game.
The first scenes of them fleeing in the street reminding me of the game Freedom Fighters.

The chair is against the wall
John has a long mustache
The chair is against the wall is supposed to make you think that something is blocking the door to your forces going in on them and John has a Long Mustache is just chatter IMO. I dunno but we enjoy saying it when the boss comes around at work just to mess with the feeble never watched red dawn sheeple mind

I think they used those phrases in "The Longest Day" or whatever the movie was named that had John Wayne about D-Day. It was during a BTB from the BBC to the French Maquis- damn that rhymed. I'm a lyrical poet!

Me and the boy were the only ones in the theater the other day. We went to the bathroom and came back right before the Wolverines! scene. I told him- "you know the cool thing about being the only ones in here? We can ACT OUT THE MOVIE!" and I climbed up on some guard rail stuck my hand in the air and yelled WOLVERINES!!! loud as all get out...
Enjoy it another time or two folks, I think it's leaving the theaters soon. We are going to wallpaper the bathroom and part of the hall with our ticket stubs.
