well if either of you are ever in my neck of the woods Nov-Feb you can teach me how to make a bowdrill and ill take you on the trapline. That kind of division is alot of places i think. hobby trappers vs professional trappers the list goes on. Is that really you Protus? and what website is this that you talk of?

no that is not me,..when i camp i dont put on my green acres outfit......,it is one the people that decided to let their ego get in they way of them learning. I dont even recall them going on the forum owners survival "race" that he put on ( kinda of a team based rally through some events)..like i siad...to much effort to put down the red party cup on their end. Like i said go the people of walmart website and you'll get a good idea of the types that were there.
i wont say what forum it is, if others that were there want to they can but doubt they will.

this is how you camp to be comsidered a hard core super survivalist in their eyes ..i mean you freeze when its 48f right?
(guess my wife is hardcore to since she hiked those 12 miles with a ruptured disk and slept under a tarp)..damn us hardcore people....damn us all.....

        eta:
there was no hike at their campout...this was the south east forum hike. 1 person showed from that forum....and he one of the few "normal" ones.....i guess walking more than 100 feet is hardcore for some of them as well.....a hardcore work out more like it LOL>

I call myself a "prepper." I do this for two reasons: 1) to call myself a "survivalist" to anyone outside a forum like this is to label myself "one of those guys" (a Branch Davidian or someone with a one-way ticket to Jonestown), and 2) I frankly consider a "survivalist" on a higher level than where I am in the process of building, learning and acquisition of goods.

And, to another comment, I find I am very much willing to learn, but that I seldom have the time to implement many of the techniques I'd like to learn. My wife and I have multiple jobs while trying to enjoy life and pay down our mortgage as quickly as possible. So, as a "prepper," what I am attempting is to stockpile information along with boxes, cans and tools. So, I am assembling crude books/binders with information on various subjects. I realize it's BETTER to learn by doing, but in lieu of that I am trying to at least prepare myself so that if the time should come that all these skills would be needed, I can at least read the advice from real survivalists here and have a fighting chance at getting through.

I understand there might be some animosity at the "johnny-come-lately" preppers. In any profession, there are newbies who drive everyone nuts with their misguided thinking that they know everything. As far as I can tell, I think most every "fledgling survivalist" (MY definition of the word "prepper") here has shown respect for those of you for whom this has become a lifestyle. Hopefully, you can respect our perspective as much as we respect yours - and how much we "preppers" appreciate your willingness to share the wealth of knowledge you posses.

If I was closer I'd take you up on that in a heartbeat! Trapping is a skill I'm way behind the curve on. I've caught a couple of wild cats raiding the chicken pen, that's about it....

              Getting back on track here-

I don't personally have a problem with the different names/labels. I'm just concerned about the difference in attitudes/concerns and mindsets and the growing division.

I HOPE I end up 85 years old having lived my life without anything major ever happening. No sane "prepper" or "survivalist" really WANTS anything to happen. If they do, they are either too stupid to realize the true ramifications of bad stuff happening, they are just messing around, or they are the kind of idjits that think their life will get better after something happens- i.e, the convict mindset "I'll take what I need" kind of thing.
