I felt like the guys whole article was spoken down to me from his high horse. First of all, I see any form of prepping as a good thing. The more people that take precautions and prepare for disasters, the better. Unprepared people become desperate. Desperate people are dangerous. If people are taking actions that help them avoid becoming desperate in a disaster, why on earth would anyone bad mouth them.
His article is divided into two main thrusts. First he goes after obnoxious internet posters. In the same breath he describes himself as an antisocial, paranoid loner, hanging out in the woods. Clearly he has his own social problems to work out and shouldn’t be so preoccupied with pointing out other peoples social deficiencies. Bottom line, we’ve all come across obnoxious internet posters, and been one from time to time. Let he without sin cast the first stone.
Second, he tries to paint preppers as presumptuous, gullible, know-it alls. It sounds like he’s had some bad internet experiences. Who hasn’t? Of course this all depends on the sites one frequents. There are a lot of knowledgeable, good people out there, and many have helpful spirits. There can also be a lot of white supremacists, conspiracy theorists, violent anti-government types, ect, depending on which internet site you use. Good moderators like we have here, along with some knowledgeable members makes all the difference. I would suggest the author use more discretion concerning the internet sites he frequents. It doesn’t take much effort to find a really bad or really good internet survival site.
Particularly disturbing to me were his examples of prepers being gullible; to include a reference that 90% will die in a nationwide EMP and grocery shelves would empty in three days in a disaster. I believe both those examples are very close to the mark, so I guess I’m gullible too. Living in Florida and having gone through the hurricane drill numerous times, I know for a fact that grocery stores are cleaned out in short order with just the threat of a disaster. The disaster doesn’t even have to happen for that reality to go down. So much for his grocery store stocking math.
