  • Women On Target

I went to the Tri-City Gun Club for a day of training yesterday. I absolutely loved it! I took my daughter and a friend with me as well and all learned a lot. I think there were at least 100 women there and it was great to see all those women learning to protect themselves and having a fun time doing it.
We were shown how to shoot shotguns, 22 rifles, AR15's, and several handguns. It was great to be able to try all of those weapons and get instructions on each one. I definitely improved with each weapon. Most of the instructors were men and is was so awesome to see that they really take us women and our safety seriously. They took the time to answer every question and offered information about each weapon. They gave additional instruction on how to improve my shooting with each weapon. I had never shot the AR15 before and I have to say, I REALLY like that gun!
They supplied all the weapons and ammo as well as a really good lunch. There was a drawing for lots of prizes and I won a T-shirt :-) There was also a lecture given about our personal safety. It was nice to have the time to sit and ask questions and learn about things that can help keep us safe.
We spent the whole day there at the gun club learning and enjoying ourselves for very little money.
I'm already planning to attend again next year.
Ladies, take the initiative to keep yourself safe. Take classes like this and ask lots of questions. If there is any way you can make it to the WOT at the Tri-City Gun Club next year, do it! These folks really want to help us learn.
If you men want to keep your women safe, you need to enable them to take care of themselves. You can do that by supporting and encouraging them to take classes like this. Take the women in your life on a little vacation to Oklahoma and make sure they attend WOT while you are here.

Karen, that is great that you took a day of gun training! I agree, it is lots of fun. I have been taking classes for awhile now and am always encouraging the other women around me to do the same. I even remind them of the current local news stories where if the person had had a gun the person would possibly have been in a better situation.

Have fun with practicing your new skills.

Thanks :-) I'm really enjoying shooting. I'm heading back to the rifle range tomorrow morning with my husband, daughter, and a couple of the ninjas on this forum. I want a rifle next. I really llike the AR 15, but I need to try more guns before I decide.

And who's going to help clean all those rifles? ;)

Pssst, don't tell the other site staff here I own an AK, they still think I'm civilized and advanced enough to own an AR. :D

I'll be happy to help, but I think the responsibility should be on the shoulders of the ninja who brings the guns :-)

I'll be using my tactical ninja detector with heat sensors. So even if you're wearing a tinfoil hat, I'll know you're there.

I'm no ninja. Ninja skills are for wannabes like certain birdlike folks from Georgia. I'm preferring the Viking mentality myself. Let 'em know who's coming by the smoke from the scorched earth you are bringing with you. But then, I'm not sure I would be invited back lol

Lucky enough, I'm only up to "A View To A Kill" in the James Bond series. So I'm covered for the moment lol

Funny story about that...we were camping once and playing horseshoes after dark (redneck engineering, we taped glow sticks to the stakes...I will neither confirm nor deny of adult beverages being involved). Anyhow, someone got a real good roll, missed the stake and the thing just kept going and going...right into someone's ankle. Not broken, but pretty dang sore and she hobbled around for a few days afterwards. Needless to say, we were banned from night firing of horseshoes from then on.

So if I'm ever attacked while playing horseshoes, I'm chucking one of the things at the dude. Trust me, getting winged by a couple of pounds of steel will seriously put a damper on your thoughts of ill intent.
