I was luckily enough to happen to notice it on the event board at the local REI. I really lucked out. And any excuse to visit Chimeny Rock is a good one! The place is really.... Well "breathtaking" is the only way I can put it.

More like re-awakening after a dormancy... The Preparedness Expo's and classes used to be very common all across the USA in the 80's and 90's... The only real difference is that the modern movement is about personal survival and the movements of old were "Republic Restoration" oriented through personal preparedness and self-sufficiency. Rise of the Police State, Robed Dictators, Executive orders, UN, and treaty trickery, etc... Which all prophetically has come to pass...Originally posted by rockriver View Postthe survivalist industry appears to be in its infancy.

Someone once told me that "imitation is the highest form of flattery." I've been hearing things I taught on regurgitated by others that gainedif i go im bringing my 2ft level......
"fame" for it for years. The statement about "flattery" helps, but it still feels like a kick in the nuts sometimes don't it? :)www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

we dont have enough adverts on our youtube channels to teach ..:P lolOriginally posted by fallout boy View Postcopying yuor videos protus? sound slike it! You and lowdonw should teach at this.
Honestly. I see it as I did those films long ago to help others. At the time, most of what we showed was "new" to the post katrina preppers out there and it has taken a while for those simple( tested and tried ) ideas to take hold. So many bucked the idea's of freezing your grains( or just the simple facts about humidty) , about using a clothing iron, about packing certain feed grains the whole 9 yards. Yet now its common place to do a youtube search and come up with 100 movies on "how to pack with mylar..." i can remember up till about 3 years ago or so that if you did a "long term food" search we were the ONLY NON LDS channel with films about it. Now go search it LOL.
If the ideas help folks it's fine by me...
But yeah LD it is a kick in the baby makers at times to see some of these "new" people pulling in $$$ over info many of us gave out for free.
such is life YMMV...if it helps a new person im ok with it all..Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

They might be making $$$ but not all of it is the real stuff like you guys. And the people they have on their sites are more into looking good or haveing the prettiest gear that they have no idea how to use. You all want "us" to make it through the tough times and be ready for the rest when it does. I say THANK YOU to you guys for what you have done and whats going to come.

Who's all going? If you go there stop by the table and say hello. Should have a banner up that will look just a little bit like the picture banner at the top of the page. Should be easily recognizable :)Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"
Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"
Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

i went and learned a lot.
i'm not as experienced in these areas as you guys,
but i'll give a brief rundown and try to answer some questions listed above.
if anyone else went - please chime in.
here was basic intinerary
friday pm
630 a baptist preacher -spoke on "WHY" from a biblical viewpoint and made suggestions on approaching your church leaders or other folks
715 a lady ex fbi - spoke on being aware of your surroundings, hiding in plain sight,
800 a soldier - spoke on prep vehicles, bov
845 question and answer session
sat am
815 presentation of colors and prayer and pledge of allegiance
guys there was a good solid conservative/Christian/patriotic atmosphere all weekend.
i met several non christians but there was respect on all sides
average age of attendees was 55 to 65
this was a big meeting. probably 600 plus.
830 an engineer - spoke on wells and water and solar and energy in general
930 a soldier spoke on retreat security and sanitation
1045 forstechen spoke on emp's adn the book one second after.
lunch
100pm a guy gave talk on 100 items that will disappear and why not get them now.
200pm guy gave talk on which firearms to get. common calibres. he preferred ar's
314 medic - gave talk on first aid kits, medicine expiriation dates, alternatives.
415 they gave away door prizes (primarily provided by the vendors )
430 man discussed the UN agenda 21
500 fella discussed preparing for the worst and how to rebuild. (i missed most of this one)
for those who don't want to pay/travel to attend this one, let me encourage you to put your own seminar together. i think people will come. i was surprised at the size of the crowd. most there have been prepping less than 3 years.
i talked briefly with forstchen. he was available as were all speakers before and after meetings. an attendee could have asked him anything they wanted to. it was a long trip for me. i'm working on his book now.
separate from the assembly hall there was a large room set aside for vendors. hand operated water pumps.
ballistic protection, military gear, food, grinders, water filters, pri-g night vision, books, nets, tents, camping gear, solar gear, holsters. this room stayed busy. our sponsor here, JRH was set up. i suspect they charged for the right to "setup" and this helped off set the cost of putting on this seminar.
the facility was a nice but older facility good food, auditorium, hotel type rooms, (no tv's!)
very clean. i've heard of ridgecrest as far back as my memory goes but i'd never been there.

The teens, 20 and 30 somethings were too busy getting trashed to a day where the Mexicans defeated the French. I will speak for my generation, only 1-3% of us prep.Originally posted by Rmplstlskn View PostThis is the most worrisome, and one I tend to concur with from my little part of the world... 55-65 was my estimate.
i'm relaying comments to my bride.
she says my estimate of age is low.
these folks were serious.
i'm learning that it is nice to be young and athletic.
i'm neither.
but i'm also learning that attitude. trust. dependability.
what is in the heart. are extremely important.
does one deal fairly now.
in good times if someone doesn't deal fairly, i figure they'll be downright thief if times are tough
does one act respectful of others now.
if someone isn't respectful of others now, they'd quickly turn to thieving, killing in bad times.
does one lift themselves above others now.
if someone demands others bow to them now, they'd be a horrible king if they had the power to control then.
does one treat their wfie, mother, daughter, loved ones properly now
if someone can't treat their wife properly now, why in the heck do i think they'd come to my rescue then.
well you get the picture...
i had some good discussions there with some 70+ year olds who came up on their fancy motorcycle.
they are prepping seriously. they can carry their own firewood. we had good conversation on our parents
upbringing and life stories of that generation that came through the depression.

at the local flea market there is an older man. easily at that 75 mark if not more. He sells all kinds of old cast iron and alum, cooking pots, pans and other kitchen items that dont require power. We sat there and shot the breeze with him more than a few times and learned something each time...opens ears, and open minds wins the day vs over looking a resource of not only goods but knowledge.Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!
