My wife always gives me grief about what I pack in my car. A full tool kit, fix-a-flat (2 cans), a hydraulic jack and extra clothes (jacket, jeans, etc.) and a basic first-aid kit. This is BEFORE I started prepping. I grew up relatively poor and spent more than one afternoon fixing my car on the side of the road. In 27 years of marriage, I've never failed to get home. She, on the other hand, has been 'rescued' by me several times. Now, she doesn't have the mechanical ability that I do, but I usually have what it takes to get her back on the road and get home.

As far as weather alerts, we've spent many a night in the basement when the tornado warnings/watches are a county away. I'd rather spend 100 extra nights in the basement than get blindsided once. I lived in the midwest for several years and don't take ANY warning sign lightly. My neighbors on the other hand.....
