I was on YouTube checking out a video on being prepared by storing back canned goods from the store with long shelf lives. In it a person commented that she approached her pastor at church with the idea fo teaching some preparedness skills to some members that had shown an interest. The reply from the pastor should surprise some, but not everyone.
He said NO, he didn't want the spread fear among the members, because.......preparedness promotes fear.
I quickly posted my comment to the video, and then went to my video page to send a PM to the person about their comment. I told them to keep the faith, and that they were right in wanting to be prepared, and the others were right in wanting to be prepared, and that the pastor was wrong on that point, because there are many stories in the bible on the subject of being prepared. And many of these stories of preparedness are more than just about being prepared with food set aside.
After careful consideration on the subject, I will be adding this quote from now on as the one that will appear with my response to each of the threads that I respond to, on each of the boards that I frequent and post to. I feel that it sums up the whole subject of fear among those that see the need for preparedness.
"It has been said once, that preparedness, and the idea of being prepared, promotes fear. That isn't true. Being UNPREPARED.......that is what promotes fear"
I have concerns about what could happen. Natural or man-made events can propel us into dire situations, that can bring out some of our greatest fears. But the thing that would cause ME personally to have the greatest fear, would being caught UNPREPARED, and not being able to provide for my family and loved ones in a real dire emergency. This fear can cripple even the bravest person, to the point that hoplessness, and loss of self-worth, make you totally ineffective in trying to cope and fix the problems that are thrown at you.
Back in 2008, the remnants of Hurricane Ike, knocked outpower to our region, and in some cases, upwards of 10+ days. Many suffered a bit, because they had no means of doing the things that they normally do with electricall power. Most had to adapt, but many of us had ways to cook, and provide lights for our families. We were prepared from the start, and had no problems, because we knew what to do, how to do it, and when. We were not scared, and I was never scared, even when I started prepping, because I knew that there were ways to do things, and all you needed to do was to learn them, so that when problems did come.......you were ready.
