  • PROMOTES FEAR ???!!!

    I was on YouTube checking out a video on being prepared by storing back canned goods from the store with long shelf lives. In it a person commented that she approached her pastor at church with the idea fo teaching some preparedness skills to some members that had shown an interest. The reply from the pastor should surprise some, but not everyone.

    He said NO, he didn't want the spread fear among the members, because.......preparedness promotes fear. :eek:

    I quickly posted my comment to the video, and then went to my video page to send a PM to the person about their comment. I told them to keep the faith, and that they were right in wanting to be prepared, and the others were right in wanting to be prepared, and that the pastor was wrong on that point, because there are many stories in the bible on the subject of being prepared. And many of these stories of preparedness are more than just about being prepared with food set aside.

    After careful consideration on the subject, I will be adding this quote from now on as the one that will appear with my response to each of the threads that I respond to, on each of the boards that I frequent and post to. I feel that it sums up the whole subject of fear among those that see the need for preparedness.

    "It has been said once, that preparedness, and the idea of being prepared, promotes fear. That isn't true. Being UNPREPARED.......that is what promotes fear"

    I have concerns about what could happen. Natural or man-made events can propel us into dire situations, that can bring out some of our greatest fears. But the thing that would cause ME personally to have the greatest fear, would being caught UNPREPARED, and not being able to provide for my family and loved ones in a real dire emergency. This fear can cripple even the bravest person, to the point that hoplessness, and loss of self-worth, make you totally ineffective in trying to cope and fix the problems that are thrown at you.

    Back in 2008, the remnants of Hurricane Ike, knocked outpower to our region, and in some cases, upwards of 10+ days. Many suffered a bit, because they had no means of doing the things that they normally do with electricall power. Most had to adapt, but many of us had ways to cook, and provide lights for our families. We were prepared from the start, and had no problems, because we knew what to do, how to do it, and when. We were not scared, and I was never scared, even when I started prepping, because I knew that there were ways to do things, and all you needed to do was to learn them, so that when problems did come.......you were ready.

    It's part of that double edged sword where you try and educate so as to instill confidence but are quickly ridiculed or commented on in a negative light such as this.
    Your stories and comments are dead on.

      Good post Dim Tim.

      You referenced Scripture. Joseph told Egypt's Pharoah they would experience 7 years of plenty but they needed to use that time to prepare for another 7 years of famine. Those preparations got Egypt through famine. Other countries came to Egypt for help because they didn't prepare. My favorite Bible teacher says, "repeat, repeat, repeat" speaking of teaching Scripture. When it comes to getting ready for what's coming I say, "prepare, prepare, prepare!"

        The most popular event at my local church is the Concealed Carry Class. It's so popular there's a waiting list.

          Maybe more churches should offer the class. We need more bible bangin', bitter right wingers clinging to their guns and religion....and I be one!....chuckle...

              That may be some of it, but I think there are a coule others as well.

              As far as this poor womans plight, I told her in a PM to pray, keep the faith, and remember that I'll be asking that others do the same as well along with me. Dozens of times the Lord said in the Bible..."Fear not". Fear is the work of the devil, because it takes your mind away from God, and it will get you hurt or killed in some cases.
              I am not in control, I'm just along for the ride, and I'll do what God leads me to do, because he knows best. Preparedness is taught so many times in the Bible, it is important, or God would have let us know otherwise.

              It's just like I stated in my original post......."Being Prepared doesn't promote fear...being UNPREAPRED is what promotes fear". So that being said, we need to take a cue from the Boy Scouts, and Be Prepared. And we need to tell others to do the same. Just like witnessing to others about Christ, we need to tell them , even if they don't believe it is the thing to do, and no matter how much they riddicule and scorn us. Some day the time will come when we will be justified, and it will be worth it. :D

                  Every May our church has a weekend firearms familarization course that now is expanded to include camping. Very popular with our group. We had almost 150 signup last year.
