Has anyone read the article about it posted on the Drudge? The comments are insane! Even the ones who make sense are risking OPSEC.

My wish for that or a new show...
I would imagine that if NATGEO would take a book like Rawles "how to" and design a show based on that book. People would actually get on the bandwagon. There are certain things that I think differently on then JWR but climate and some other factors come into play on that. But imagine a 10 part series where they cover a chapter of Rawles book, and match it up with true preppers that cover that topic well. I think it would be an instant hit, because everywhere I turn, I run into people prepping but asking questions. Seems lotsa people are looking for answers and it would be better for all if they got GOOD answers.

WIth the guy in TX prepping, some of his food stock are in glass jars sitting on shelves.
??? If an earthquake were to shake the place, would all his glass shelves be on the ground?????
DW concurred, need to put some railings or straps up to hold them in place!!!!!

Well said Knocky!
As we were doing the chores with the animals this a.m and getting a little morning gardening work done, I reflected on how the couple in TX were living FOR the "pockeylips."
They may have 50K lbs. of food and that's not a bad thing, but I'm thinking a couple thousand invested in some real solar power versus (what looked like) the crappy harbor freight set would drastically improve their lives NOW.
It seemed those two were too involved with living for the "pockeylips" (Mad Max beyond Thunderdome reference in case you didn't recognize it) and had missed a lot they could do to raise their standard of living TODAY.
We don't live in sealand containers, I won't say how much food we have nor where it's located, but we live a damn good life NOW and would likely live close to this same way if TSHTF.
Since this is going to be a "series" I think we will start a show by show breakdown thread. Might be good to critique each setup/plan individually. This is probably the best way for all of us to really "get something" from this show other than an hour of brain drain. ;)

I still think the title of the show is pejorative. Average folks seeing that title automatically are going to look at the participants as whack jobs. When you get into the episodes, and see what seminal event the folks involved are 'prepping' for, the viewer is convinced of the nuttiness.
To pick an event such as the possible change in the magnetic properties of the planet, or some other such once in a million year event, as the event you are gearing up for just screams "I am a nutter" to anyone that watches.
Putting 100% of your time and resources into providing a solution to as yet, a non existent problem, is not good planning. Way too many REAL things can and do happen on a daily basis. Take care of today, and then prep for tomorrow.

LMAO!!!Originally posted by WiseOwl View PostAnybody know where I can buy a bunch of hand warmers to throw in my buckets? And yes those buckets have The Colonel on the side......:)
I didn't make it to evidently the 2nd hour. I left after Megan's part of the show. An hour watching that crap was more exhausting that a couple hours fighting people at the gym. At least the latter was PRODUCTIVE and had some meaning!
BTW, most probably don't recognize the Christopher Nyerges (sp?) guy. He is old skewl. Check your older American Survival Guide magazines. He's the west coast version of our East coast/Southeast "Eat the Weeds" Green Deane edibles dude. Chris has been doing this longer than probably everyone showcased on the show. I would be willing to bet he's a LOT more prepared than what little he covered on the show.
Also, what didn't you see with Chris that you did see with Megan? Poorly thought out and cheap gear that doesn't work. Why do you suppose that is? Cause Chris gets out and DOES STUFF. That's why you probably won't see him with a $5. Chinese made walmart compass that won't hold an azimuth when it's new.
I'm guessing Megan is now shopping for a real compass, maybe one that has Tritium or Phosphorus. Sometimes you don't figure out stuff like that till you get out and actually DO stuff.
Her "expert gun instructor" was a joke. I haven't seen so many chicken wings since my last trip to Zaxbys..... She looks strong but EVERYONE should be taught how to correctly deal with recoil when shooting.

That truck drivers body armor looks like a g string on him, he's got to be close to 400 lbs . My philosophy , carry as little as required to obtain as much as needed. I will not stay put .

With shows like this you have to use your head and take the good parts with the bad ones. Everybody always comes away with different ideas on what they see and read. Just like on here. We all try to do and say what each of us does and knows and we hope the next person understands. Watching the clips for the show it gave me an idea that I hadn't thought of and am now trying to persue. I even ask a question about it and only 3 responses for it. Who ever thought real cheese would last so long when waxed. Much batter tasting than freeze dried or powder.

tarheel.
That is megan.
100% newb. She is a member of at survivalistposerboards. There is a big thread about the show there and she chimed in. She 100% regrets doing the show and wishes she did not do it.
IMHO she is the perfect example of what a "prepper" is. She is what 85% of the internet preppers are imho.
Sorry but ive never liked the term nor accepted it. Heck i think admin has blisters on his ears from my rants about it LOL.
I agree with what he says as well.
I remeber the fat suburbia " i can afford to lose 100lbs....so i wont go hungry....someone pass me a moon pie....." let me buy my food storage and proclaim fame lady from the 1st season....sending emails to PAW productions on how and WHAT to pack 3+ years ago...........
Now , are all the people tards on the show. Prolly not. if they have an angle to push ( aka make money via promos etc) then they are smart. I dont see some of these people on this second season doing that so far.
they are being painted with the " i have stuff..you dont....im gonna live...and your gonna die.." aka the I TOLD YOU SO mentality.
i alrady watched the 1st show twice 3 days ago, had the wife watch it as well...and may go see if part 2 is up.......
though the previews look like its gonna be full of the same slant.

If you go to the natgeotv site you can watch 3 minute or clips from each group. The first girl that is on there, and i think it is tonights show, is a little off her rocker. She is the one saying "bullets, lots and lots of bullets!" with this sinister look on her face. Then she demonstrates how she plans to off her cat when the shtf because life for the cat would be too horrible. Where they find these folks is amazing. If, and it would NEVER happen, I or anyone in my group was on that show, regardless of how sane we might come across in person, that show is going for the shock effect, so I would expect them to leave a lot of the rational talk out and talk about my hoarding of food or my basement being called the bunker by my wife, etc. By the time the show air'd, somehow there would have been a picture of napalatano with a machete sticking out of it. Like I said, I watch it more for the little nugget that I might have not known.
