First of all my prayers go out to Cimarron and family. Divorce is never pleasant and it is so devastating to the kids involved. I went through it well over 30 years ago and I still remember the pain. It is like anything else we do though, we have to focus on what is best for the kids as well as for the two people involved. Sometimes staying together can be worse than divorce.

As to my focus for the next year, I have to refocus on a possible move to a more rural setting. GB

How are you folks storing water? Are you treating it with anything first? So far, I've been rinsing out and filling empty 2 liter pop bottles with my city tap water and stocking them in the basement. Got about two weeks worth, if we only use it for drinking. (Yes, I need ALOT more..)

I'm not sure what the shelf life of this will be, I assume with the chlorine that the city adds, that storing it this way is safe - then again, I may be totally wrong!

In a pinch, I have a nearby stream that I could get water from, then filter it and treat it... But that brings up another question...
Creek water - I can filter it to get rid of the solids, treat it to kill bacteria, but what if it's contaminated with some kind of chemicals? The creek runs thru town, so who knows what kind of chem-crap is in it!!

Prays to you Cimarron. I had to face that torutre almost 8 years ago. Ipray that you stand strong inthe face of the oncoming storm.

Our focus is still just plugging away at the basics. More food, a water collection system, more ammo and full sets of battle gear are at the top of the list. One skill that I really need to learn is sewing. I'm hoping to start within the next couple of months with my grandma. It seems sad that I can suture a laceration but can't een hem the leg on a pair of pants.

A big thank you to all the well wishes, thoughts, and prayers for me and my family. We/I need all the help I can get.

As I think about this thread and my upcoming life change. it occurred to me that another prepping focus may be my learning how to stay "mobile". I'll be moving, packing/unpacking stuff. Different living locale which means, checking for weak points of security, going over a new "get home route from work". Meeting new neighbors and assessing their threat level.

I hope I have a positive outlook through this and maybe keep some level of "survival and preparedness" mindset.

Hang in there, Cimarron. Having been through both a divorce and loss of a spouse, I can honestly say it does get better, but one must keep focused on what is truly important. Have a Merry and Blessed Christmas!

On the OP topic, perimeter security is the big item at this time, although continuing to acquire and develop other "stuff" is not far behind. Given the current scenarios both worldwide and in conus, I feel procrastination is NOT a good idea.
