What's your current focus on prepping?

For us- we've been rotating some old ammo that didn't fare too well in storage. The little drops in price on silver have seen us buying a little bit of silver- haven't done much of that in a long while.

We are finishing up some homestead projects and will be pruning orchards and cutting some trees the next couple weeks. For some reason it always feels like you just "should" cut wood when it's cold? We have burned very little so far this season, only having a fire a couple nights in November and not many so far in December. We cut at least a year ahead, usually two. At this point we don't have a lot of shed space freed up that isn't already filled with wood. The cutting serves two purposes for us-

    1. It's usually clearing areas of view- nice down low type way of saying "fields of fire." :)
    2. Firewood cut and put up is like money in the bank. At the hunting camp we have some firewood in a shed there that we cut in 2003 and 2004. So properly stored, I know it stores well in our climate. Who knows what the future holds? (Jet packs? LOL) Not sure if something happens but in a year or two I could be very short on time, having wood for several years sitting ready just makes good sense.

We are always rotating food, our "problem" with that has become one of production. We've been blessed with lots of vegetables and fruit the last few years. While that's a good thing, it makes it harder to justify using up old #10 cans of dehydrated peas when their is a pile of them in the freezer and we need the space for deer and rabbit. The food we put up at home- glass jar canned, some dried and frozen- has to be used up quicker than the LTS food, so we find ourselves rotating the "Pioneer Supply" easier than the LTS. Still wouldn't be without it though.

The family has been shooting more, which eats up ammo stocks quicker with more shooting at one time. I've cut down considerably on classes but even 5-6 classes a year can use up a pile of ammo.

Health is really good and always something we are working on. A couple months back my wife asked me to start adding in a kettlebell workout before our family runs. I had been just working the kettlebells a little on my own at night. So for several months now we've been working with them before our runs. The boy has gotten several comments about his strength and I see it helpful to him regularly. The important part is the family enjoys it. It's not something I 'make' them do, they want to do it and see the benefits of it. That's the best way to get and keep your family involved in things like this.

So what's YOUR current prepping focus? Plans for the new year?

Water! We have some stored in a variety of 5-gal, 2-ltr, 32-oz bottles, but I'm working on a rain water harvesting system next. This summer's top priority was getting a garden in, now that's done, it's water next. Took the opportunity of a storm damaged roof to go back on with a metal roof, so now I'm looking for above tanks and downspout diverters.

Ditto on the water. My wife and I are trying to get our water situation squared away. We have around 1800 gallons right now, but think we need more.
We are also stocking up on toiletries. T.p., feminine products, soap, shampoo, toothpaste. Things of this nature.
We are also trying to find some other members to possibly form a group. We realize we can't pull security for very long with just the two of us. This concerns me more than anything else at the moment. It's hard to find people you can trust nowadays.

My main prepping focus is surviving my upcoming divorce. (hasn't been filed yet)

The separating of our all of the stuff we have accumulated in the last 16 yrs.

Finding another place to live and then being able to live there on one income.

The custody of my three children and making sure their needs come first, not mine, or their mothers.

The safe storage and quick acquisition of my

I am going to be rotating my focus across the major groups...trying to implement a structured buying plan instead of willy nilly.

My resolution is to get more in the woods time practicing some skills. More shooting maybe a class is I can find someplace good.
More water, again a roof collection system.
Upgrade batteries for the solar system.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Quick reaction pre loaded heavy duty tote containers. For example..A couple filled and sealed with food items ,one with cooking tools, one with extra clothes items, one with medical ect.....a total of ten or twelve can be loaded in the bed of even a small pickup in less than 15 min stapped down and not attract any attention....PS... just dont forget to write in large block letters on the sides of at least two containers "YARD SALE STUFF" and stick one plastic pink yard Flamingo and an old lawnmower handle in the bed for everyone to see as you drive by.. LOL.

Man, this is getting frustating. This is the fourth time I am typing out this post as the first three timed out when I hit the post button. Hopefully the fourth time is a charm.

Cimmeron, I am really sorry you are having to go through this, I will be praying for you and your family.

As for my current prep focus, I am working to have more dried and dehydrated LTS, i.e., items in mylar and/or #10 cans. Also, I have been looking for property that we can purchase and then develop over time. I have finally found some acreage that fits my criteria and will be taking a drive next week with my daughter to see it in person.

EX121, the schools that come to mind that I can recommend that are "somewhat" near you are:

                        Thunder Ranch: http://www.thunderranchinc.com/

                        Insights Training: http://www.insightstraining.com/

Clint Smith from Thunder Ranch is retired military and LEO, he trains military teams and LEO as well as the general public. He and his wife, Heidi, are the nicest of nice people and their school is top notch in my opinion. Lakeview, where they are located is not convenient to anyone but worth the trip. What amazes me when have taken classes there is how far the students have come just to take the class. My last class there we had two guys who work at the Pentagon that came, a couple from Texas, a couple from California (the husband was LEO), a guy from Alaska, etc.

Greg Hamilton who started Insights Training is also retired military (army ranger) and most of his instructors are either ex-military and/or LEO. The Insights classes I have taken have been very good.

Just to let you all know, I have no affiliation with either of these schools other than the fact I have taken classes at both have found them to be very good. I hope this helpful.

                        Merry Christmas,
                        SC

                          .
Our prayers are with you and yours. I went through the same thing 11 yrs ago. Believe it or not but the life after can be a hundred times better with the right spouse in your life. Your priorities are straight about placing your children first.

On prepping, the beans, bullets and bandaids are coming along well. Since there are no creeks on our bug in site, water is my focus for this year. I am getting a manual pump for our drilled well (drinking water). I am adding to our rainwater collection system (garden water) and I am trying to barter with a fellow that has a backhoe to build a pond on the back of our property (food source).

                          Merry Christmas to all.

My main focus right now is getting moved onto new (leased) property where I'll be for the next year or so while I save up for buying some land. Other than that, continuing my monthly budgeted LTS food purchases.

                              we have large shortcomings.
                              need long term storage food.
my water source is well that is ac current dependent
                              alternative energy
                              fruit trees
getting better aquainted with some neighbors.
