What's your current focus on prepping?
For us- we've been rotating some old ammo that didn't fare too well in storage. The little drops in price on silver have seen us buying a little bit of silver- haven't done much of that in a long while.
We are finishing up some homestead projects and will be pruning orchards and cutting some trees the next couple weeks. For some reason it always feels like you just "should" cut wood when it's cold? We have burned very little so far this season, only having a fire a couple nights in November and not many so far in December. We cut at least a year ahead, usually two. At this point we don't have a lot of shed space freed up that isn't already filled with wood. The cutting serves two purposes for us-
1. It's usually clearing areas of view- nice down low type way of saying "fields of fire." :)
2. Firewood cut and put up is like money in the bank. At the hunting camp we have some firewood in a shed there that we cut in 2003 and 2004. So properly stored, I know it stores well in our climate. Who knows what the future holds? (Jet packs? LOL) Not sure if something happens but in a year or two I could be very short on time, having wood for several years sitting ready just makes good sense.
We are always rotating food, our "problem" with that has become one of production. We've been blessed with lots of vegetables and fruit the last few years. While that's a good thing, it makes it harder to justify using up old #10 cans of dehydrated peas when their is a pile of them in the freezer and we need the space for deer and rabbit. The food we put up at home- glass jar canned, some dried and frozen- has to be used up quicker than the LTS food, so we find ourselves rotating the "Pioneer Supply" easier than the LTS. Still wouldn't be without it though.
The family has been shooting more, which eats up ammo stocks quicker with more shooting at one time. I've cut down considerably on classes but even 5-6 classes a year can use up a pile of ammo.
Health is really good and always something we are working on. A couple months back my wife asked me to start adding in a kettlebell workout before our family runs. I had been just working the kettlebells a little on my own at night. So for several months now we've been working with them before our runs. The boy has gotten several comments about his strength and I see it helpful to him regularly. The important part is the family enjoys it. It's not something I 'make' them do, they want to do it and see the benefits of it. That's the best way to get and keep your family involved in things like this.
So what's YOUR current prepping focus? Plans for the new year?
