I'll check it out later today. I have a Doc. appointment in an hour. This bill is the National Defense Authorization Act for 2011-2012 that funds the military so I would think that it addresses the military and not civilians, but I will check it out.

I have not read the whole thing yet but we need to make sure all sections when refering to "authorities" are including not only Local and FEDERAL Law enforcement but also Military. Because remember that this is now Considered a "WAR Zone/Battlefeild", and "authorities" usually were limited to Cilivian actions (that is if I remember correctly) and not Military actions/personal.

Basically the 2 biggest problems here are that they are trying to tell us:

#1. that the US is now a battlefield, which is submitting us to Military rules and possible Military Occupation.
#2. that our current president says he will veto this bill because he does not need it, he thinks he already has the authority to do this.

Our Military is not a police force. They are not trained to be that, they follow much different rules when "policing" an AO then our current LEO do and you do not want to be in a place that is policed by the Military (any military). If you say the US is a Battlefeild the Military will be here (sooner or later) and once that happens things usually do not end cleanly.

@BB -- what MIO said, Thanks. If I had known what the bill number was i would have looked it up myself...still need to check on my reps to see how they voted on this.

I believe the "bill" most are talking about is "H.R. 1540" but there are 6 versions of that bill. So knowing which version will get passed and which is the current version is problematic for n00bs like me.

But My understanding is that it breaks down like this

America is now the Battle Ground
Americans in America that are viewed as "possible" terrorist or funding terrorist can be Enemy Combatants
And as such Americans can be detained as Prisoners of War until the war is over
"War on Terror" has no clearly defined enemy and can go on for ever (just as the war on drugs is still on going)

So following the steps An American by this bill can be detained until the War On Terror is over without a trial. And who knows when that will be.

Another scary part is the detainees can be transferred to any other governments or any other entities (ie companies) "transfer to the custody or control of the person's country of origin, any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity".

Klayton, you need to check on that. Under that bill, if you store more than 7 days worth of food, you can be classified as a terrorist. See, you thought you were a prepper, didn't you? Also, if you're missing fingers, own more than x number of guns, or own certain types of guns, or a whole bunch of other stuff, you can be classified as a terrorist, shipped off to Guantanamo, denied due process, and forget about having a lawyer. Oh, yeah, you no longer have the right to remain silent either. Can you hear the disgust dripping here? I spent 12 years in the military, and this is the result????
