I think it is kind of funny that mr big wig is worrying. Imagine how frightened he'll be when his help leaves and he is completely lost, while the sky is falling. But it sounds like you made some potentially beneficial contacts. Mutually beneficial from the sounds of it.

I can see the "employee's" tossing Mr X's lifeless body on the lawn and living in the McMansion after SHTF. Desperate people do desperate things.
Pray for Obama, Psalms 109:8. Before you judge me, look it up.

I think my tin foil is too tight.

        Suggestion:

        Uban Survivalist to MrX:

Sir, I'm sorry but you are grossly under prepared, you will need at least 4 times as much equipment as you have here, and 3/4th of is should be stored off site, in case you loose your on site supplies, or are forced from your home. The "Staff" should be responsible for finding secure locations for storage, and keeping perishables rotated, on an annual basis."

THAT would fix his Little Red Wagon.

All civilizations rise, rule, decline and fall. Most of us have lived through the tail end of the "Rule" part, and now happen to be living through the decline, and may see the fall. There is nothing really to be upset about, as long as your are prepared for it; it is a natural process, the trick is to not get caught up in everyone else s panic, and the governmental reaction.

If they are all dead, then it should be OK to TAKE THEIR STUFF! LOL!

I used to be rich, and hope to be so again, but I hope I was never an a**hole.

Although personality-wise Mr. X is clearly a jerk, I don't hope ill for him. We are all better off the more long term storage food there is out there, manufactured and distributed to neighborhoods around the country, even rich neighborhoods. To demonstrate this, wouldn't we all breathe easier if we knew every single household in America had a year's supply of storage food on hand, skills notwithstanding?

As far as the staff and the hints of doom Mr. X working on, it is not at all a given that the staff will abandon him. If it has to do with debt ratings, etc., then we're not talking about a TEOWAKI event (at least not an instantaneous one). Mark might very well show up to work and help set up Mr X, but insist on being paid in food or gear to enhance his own preps (I'm pre-supposing the not unrealistic assumption that there could be a period of decline long before food looters are roaming the streets, at which point indeed Mark will want to be safeguarding his home and family and let Mr. X take care of himself -- hopefully a little more trained and focused by then).

Whatver he thinks of Mr. X personally, I hope Mark is honorable enough to keep his mouth shut about the preps, to deliver honest labor for the pay he is accepting right now, and to not undermine Mr. X's survival plans, weak though they may be.

Yeah, if we are looking at an economic SHTF, Mr.X will have enough money to get just about anyone to do anything for him... Sad fact of reality when people need money in hard times... If it went lawless WROL, then he is toast, but I don't see that as a likely possibility at this point... Just major suckage...

I base that on a HINT in Scripture where the OIL and the WINE is not harmed in the Tribulation... Back then, oil & wine were often for the wealthy...

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

I am one to always think that the rich may have a trick up their sleeve, I mean if you think about it, you don't get rich by being dumb (hopefully). Never know, mr rich x could have a ton of ammo and weapons at his disposal, so just be careful my prepping buddies...

Another possible scenario is that the power elite use Mr x and other "tools" as unwitting diseminators of propaganda. We should understand one thing if any about those who wish to enslave us. They eat their own! If anything, I feel that they would see these people as unecessary, and a possible threat to their power lust. They may be just as decieved as the rest of the sheep, they just appear to enjoy it more. My $.02.

                        Wow really?

Personally I would tell him just like you did.
I would also would have told him, to plan to take care of his staff and their families if he was expecting something like that.

You have the opportunity to turn it to a teachable moment for someone with means to actually provide for another 3 familes from the sound of it. Sure Mr. X could be a clueless wonder in the real working of things. But even he could see clues like, you know if your staff's families are cared for you wouldn't have to worry about any leaving to take care of them.

Mr X sounds like a man of pride, if you needle the pride you can motivate him to do things.
"Mr. X, I know Mark can run this generator, but what if Mark is at home when the event happens. It will take time for him to get here. You wouldn't want your staff to think you couldn't fend for yourself would you?"

It doesn't take much, heck your over the greatest hump of getting him to want to prepare.

Having a big pile of gear won't do Mr. Fancypants any good if he doesn't know how to use them when the time comes.

Some of the posters on this topic sound like Obama -- a great deal of seething resentment for those "millionaires and billionaires" and "corporate jet owners".

Hey, I think Mr. X needs the advice of all of us and we should get in contact with him right away! What is his address and phone number? - LOL Nah, I'm kidding! That's kinda crappy. I'm the kind that would rather be on his own as opposed to stealing from others (although desperate times take desparate measures). I think Mr. X is a dead man if the SHTF.
