Pull some cash- not all- out of your bank account in the next day or so. I don't expect nor think that TS will HTF over this debt crisis/budget crappola, but better safe than sorry.
What will you miss doing this? On $5K you might lose what, 2 or 3 cents in interest? LOL
You can put it back in next week.
For the worry worts- no one should mess with you on less than $10K cash withdrawal.
For the real paranoid types- spend $2. getting the local "Auto trader" type magazine, find a car about the same price, dog ear that page, fold it over, circle the listing, carry that in with you. Talk incessantly to the teller how you always wanted a 1972 Gremlin (whatever), the guy said cash only, I may be back next week to deposit this if I don't make the deal, etc.
It's YOUR money. It may just very well may be safer with you for the next few weeks.
Yes, it suddenly it becomes TEOTWAWKI the money won't be worth anything, but it won't be worth anything in the bank either now will it? ;)
EARLY ON, cash will be used IMO, very early on. People always delude themselves and they will think that things will get better. It's in that early "it's all going to be over tomorrow" phase of a major scenario that you could get rid of the cash.
